Scams like these

I am sure this is a different Telstra spam email as sent from a hotmail address and a UK phone number at the bottom

The nasty thing was that a payment is due on mrsdrron's account. And also got virtually the same email from a different hotmail account saying we could not process your account.
Obviously spammers don't know what their left and right hands are doing.

^ Yeah the scam business-model doesn’t normally involve coordination with all other scammers. :)

Could you imagine tho, if the right hand and the left hand of spammers/scammers were coordinated.
Scarier.
The main things which stops that is the fact that legit/legal business is more profitable than scam business … there’s not really a scammer equivalent to Bill Gates or that cough rocket guy!

There is a like(ness) of Bill Gates, tho:
The Reece Kershaw wannabee.
Just read on the Mandarin: some "muppet" went so far as to impersonate AFP Commissioner Kershaw, and got nabbed.
"Queensland man charged over impersonating AFP Commissioner".
It was not so much a spam/scam, but it was coodinated, after the muppet and his 2 or more accomplices imported fake AFP badges from China.
So, the China manufacturer of the badges, would have fallen for the scam order in the first place.

Impressed with Telstra. I sent a screen shot of the scam email to abuse at telstra. at 1237 pm today and they replied at 1.54 pm.

Received a missed call from a semi similar number but no msg left
I called back and its either disconnected or mobile is switxhed off!
I never call back those slightly familiar numbers. No idea what’s at the other end but yeah more likely a fake number anyway….

I usually turn my caller id and call bsck after a little while.

Recently got told that some of these all they try and do is confirm the existance of your number .

Not sure if thats true.

Yeah, one reason not to call.

Also, not sure if they can divert to one of those premium pay to call services? Wasn’t that the basis of the “missed call” scam?

Yep, those are the two reasons I’m aware of not to call back a number you don‘t know & which left no message.
I have a vague recollection that there may be a protection from the premium thing these days though.

But sometimes theyre mobiles too

I didn't apply to join Locanto, but just got a verification code.
Looks like now, its easy for scammers to start by just entering any 614/04 phone numbers, and Locanto will send out the 4 digit verification code "willynilly".
It does say the sender is Locanto, and Product Review says its an iffy scammy website.

Under details, (I had to go quite deep into the sms), I reported it as spam or was it scam, and blocked number.

Better than the private number or unknown number that scammers/spammers/"friend" can use here in Aust still, to hide their identity.

Heh, hilarious Prozac.
Most likely the money was proceeds of crime in the first instance, till the poor guy didn't know what to do with his loot.
Lots appear to USD$.
The mind boggles if the funds are legit currency.

They didn’t get the address taken offline as I have just received the same email from the same Hotmail address.
