Scams like these

How can you conclude that it was a scam? Perhaps it was a Nigerian Prince sitting on a boatload of Qantas points gifted to him by Uncle Alan?
In case you’ve forgotten, AJ’s moved on. So should we.

I suspect even JA has moved on since his book has done more to dislodge a PM v a company board (as was his intention)…. But he sold some books and the carnage is in the rear view mirror….

I've been bombarded with spam in the last few days

This was this mornings

I'm getting 3 or 4 calls at odd hours, but never leave a msg - except once. Supposedly 'Tom' from Wine Concierge who had a great deal on Shiraz! A quick google - seems to be an AI Bot, and all seem to come from the same series of phone numbers. Any ideas how I can somehow get off their list as has been going on for 4 weeks now and no idea how they got my number.

Thanks in advance!

All I can is good luck - I don't remember how I stopped them but it wasn't easy

The government keeps wanting to give me some money.

UPDATE NO 3
I get an email from the hotel manager himself.
Yep, the system has been compromised — police and IT involved — its widespread. They cannot identify the source

Received a call from Virgin Money security team on (03) 4052 3012. Someone trying to put a transaction for $1700 to Air Arabia. Oh that's not good.

Next step he wants to send me a OTP. No you're not. He says we need to send you OTP. No you're not, I don't know who you are. He says he's from Virgin Money and needs to send me OTP. No I dont know who you are and I'm calling Virgin Money.

He was getting aggressive which was dead give-away. Hung up. Called me 2 more times quickly and I did not answer. Checked Google and 2 days ago number pretended to be Macquarie Bank. Last week Latitude Finance.

Called Virgin Money and they're sending me new credit card. I had just received replacement as it's expiring and this number is only 2 months old.

I still think this is inside job at Afterpay or Zip pay.

There are so many calls that I doubt they’re all called Tom, but they do seem to be real people. I answered & spoke to one of the Toms, thinking it was something different, and if it’s a bot it’s very very convincing in conversation.

I suspect that to get off that list you just have to not answer for a couple of years.

The scam phone calls have ramped up last week but I notice quite a few hang up after they hear my voice but I can hear the crowded call room in the background - maybe I don't sound old enough for them to scare scam?

On the plus side, the company I work for sends out digital gift cards for customer complaints/refunds. Ive noticed a sharp increase in having to resend them to the same customer because they initially delete as they think its a scam. Cant hate that. My helpdesk team keep apologising for asking me to resend but I appreciate people are being more careful. We also offer to print/mail their digital gift card as I understand not everyone is online (ie my own brother has zero electronic profile), its always an older person that asks for the print and mail option.

I’ve always assumed that was just the call-centre software screwing-up, or maybe the call-centre people playing games of some sort trying to pump their stats up.

Best whistle to use but warn the other people in the house before you do it.... Mr Denali was not amused

Edit. My 84yr mum in law would actually do this 🤣

Before we got rid of the land line some 4-5 years ago, we used to get a lot of scam calls and also cold calling legit businesses that ignored the DNC registration. When I detected a new one i would yell into the phone “are you there Telstra, this is one of them, please trace the number” - surprisingly they rarely called back 🤣
