Dear Costumer,

Fred

What? You're not a costumer?

Selling my car. Less than an hour after my ad went up on Gumtree I had my first scammer message.

"Hi,Just viewed your Vehicle AD, Pls confirm your asking price and condition to my email: [email protected]. Email only. Harry"

Good effort I thought.

Paypal is trying to contact me.

Well, I got one from the IMF no less:

Hello,

I am IMF agent attach to the World Bank office . I am very much aware of your ordeal towards actualizing the release of your long delayed payment.

Not very long after the World Bank completed the acquisition process of all pending payments, I discovered that my boss connived with some top officials of the World Bank to divert funds already approved to settle inheritances, email lottery winners and international contractors.

The World Bank has already given approval for the payment of your fund while they deliberately delay your payment and continue to demand fees from different departments mostly from Africa, the UK , Europe and Asia all in an attempt to enrich their private accounts. I wonder why you haven’t notice all these while. I am Christian and my religion does not permit such.

Your fund was authorized to be paid to you through the World Bank accredited affiliate with a Key Tested Reference/Claim Code Number, which was supposed to have been issued to you before now.

Upon your response to this message, I shall guide you and provide you with all you needed to contact the World Bank affiliate who will facilitate the release of your payment.

Truly Yours,

I got an email from Pay Pal. I don't have an account with them but I have used PayPal before to pay for some online purchases with my Qantas Cash Card (Mastercard). I didn't follow any of the links on the email though. I checked out what I think is the correct PayPal website and it's possible this was a real email. I got very suspicious however as I thought PayPal only had part of my name not my full name.

I am also receiving the PayPal emails again. I do not have an A/c with them but my CC is registered to pay for the occasional purchase.

I always delete emails from PayPal

I often get email from "banks" where I don't even have any accounts so it makes it easier to delete. When it's PayPal I find it's harder to tell when it's legit.

Just had a private number phone call asking for me by my last name. Sounded Asian or whatever, was hard to understand out what he was saying but he seemed to be saying he was a police officer, but I hung up after he told me his "badge number".

Never had this before, anyone else? I should have listened as now I'm wondering what he was going to ask me for.

You are in CBR. Didn't you hear? The govt. has sold the AFP to the Chinese.

I get a warning now from most spam callers...

If they make it through the filter you can report and block them.

Got this today but couldn't bring myself to open the zip file attachment.

My mother (94 yrs) received several cold calls one after the other last week - she picked up the phone and could hear some background noise but no-one answered. After the third or forth one she had had enough and said loudly "I can't hear what you are saying, just yabba, yabba, yabba." A surprised voice said, "Is that you, Mum?". It was my brother in Ireland whose mobile had somehow fallen off the seat in the car and dialled her.....several times. I'm not sure who got the bigger shock.:)

Along with Border Force presumedly.

Well Turnbull is about to sell ASIC, can you imagine that!!!!? All our company information, your information, your ABN, email, your address, etc all into Chinese hands. Journalists will no longer be able to sleuth stories of corruption, dodgy company deals, corrupt politicians. Perhaps that is it, the politicians do not want any more corruption charges levied against them. Meanwhile someone like the Chinese govt has ALL our corporate details.

It seems the comedians in the USA are using the upcoming election to give spammers a new name.

Attributed to Evan Sayet -

Hillary Clinton's nomination is truly historic - She' the first person to get an email from a Nigerian prince and actually receive the $20,000,000.

I'll now wander back to my normal spot....

Fred

PS More of my yank friends are beginning to understand why I moved to Australia...

Had a client ring me earlier this week as he'd received a call from the ATO and he'd have to pay a big fine for not paying his tax and ring this (03) number for further instructions. He's a great client, writes everything down :D.

I advised him, that as he was starting to suspect, that it was a scam. He's hasn't needed to lodge a tax return since 2011 when he retired and in fact, he's only lodging an abridged return subsequently (to get the franking credits refunded from some investments). "D***heads" he muttered, we had a good laugh and he went off to open one of his Qantas EpiQure wines I'd given him last week. Life's fun when you beat the scammers.

Last night I had a call from 'Telstra' telling me about a major internet problem.

I asked the Indian sounding woman (in a really slow voice) "Do you really think that I'm that dumb?"
She said "yes" and promptly hung up on me! How rude!!!

This little gem waiting for me in the overnight emails

To whom it may concern:

I am getting in touch with you regarding the estate of a deceased client with same last name as yours with an investment placed under our banks management 6 years ago. I want you to act as the next of kin to the deposit since you have the same last name as his.

I would appreciate your swift response if this is something you can do.

Regards,

Martin
