Scams like these

From: 614*839242*99
Asterix so that there is no link, possible.
Just got this one in Mandarin writing.
Not going to sms them back.
Don't know Mandarin, so don't know the gist of the sms.
Probably I am going to be arrested or something.
===
Starts with "Hi", then Mandarin.

Hi, weekend happy. Lily before saying more contact i have been busy working recently
===
Google app has very good photo translate for downloads.
Not spruiking, mind you.
So its the Lily who wants loving, as those have mentioned far above this one, on this thread.
Have blocked "poor" Lily from further contact.

I don’t know why the people that block these numbers bother. The numbers are chosen randomly by the scammers, you’ve got about a 1 in 100000000 chance of getting a call from the same number again; and as much chance of blocking a real call from the real owner of the number.

I don't know anyone from that number, IRL either, so nothing lost.
Let them pick which ever phone number they want, and I will keep blocking them.
Yeah but you’ll only block it AFTER they’ve tried calling you, they’ll never call twice using the same number. There’s just as much chance someone you know will get that number.

I guess there’s nothing lost if it makes you feel better, but it doesn’t have any effect.
I guess it just offends my sense of efficiency. :)

Ive had same scam number call multiple times.

Ive had same scam number call multiple times.
Similar numbers I’ve seen, but I’ve not seen the same number used.
In terms of sample-size, I used to get probably about 4 a day; it’s gone down to probably only once every 2nd day for at least 3 months & I’m not sure what’s changed, it may be ‘cos I stopped answering calls from numbers I don’t know (ie. meaning the verification they get when you answer isn’t happening so maybe my number’s not being onsold as often?).

I have definitely seen the same number used more than once as the number comes up on my recent calls page. Those are the ones I end up blocking.
They can be just pesky telemarketeers flogging cough or charities…😔

If you have blocked the number and the number shows up again, this means the other side is on spoofing number mode.
The new Aust Anti Scam Centre was supposed to start a few days ago, but I guess its early days yet, and whether the centre can really do anything to stop these scams, who knows.
But that is a a lot of money put into this ACCC sub section of an agency.

Oh, and talking about charities, they have a "right" to do as they please.
They can by pass the Aust Do Not Call register, they can buy and sell their donor data (unless you tick a small box on every charity you deal with), and not as if they would care either.
They also do not have to give a source of where they obtain their donor data from, esp the ones that you or I have never donated to, and the gall of them to send a meaningless "gift" of a biro/5 cent coin/furry toy/stickers, it all costs them money, and that money could have been spent on their core activities, of helping humans or animals, but no, they chose to spend it on buying data, and sending out twaddly items.

New one is spam email.
Don't believe when the sender is "Tinder".
Always hover over the sender.
Its showed Tinder matched me, but I have never joined.
Guess who the real sender was, ... it was "(*eincident@mail2irene*.com*)
Take away the asterix and its the real sender.
I did not check raw message.

Anyone with an association to Ventia, a contractor, shareholder etc? They have had a data breach.
If you receive an email with subject EFT Payment and with an attachment, don't open but send straight to junk.

Ventia not mentioned in subject line, nor in email address, however the only text the email contains is a Disclaimer containing the Ventia http address.
I have disabled the address in the text.

As an aside, yes, I have heard of Ventia.
They have taken over the maintenance of schools from Spotless, in South Aust.
I don't have any connection with them, but thanks for the tip off.
Its a pity that its so easy for these scammers to do "virtual" break and enters, like Optus/Medibank etc.

From a spot with .cc ie Cocos and Keeling Islands.

Didn't note down the linked website address, but it was a "your package couldn't be delivered".
