I really think these new services will certainly give Air Asia some competition in this market.
Though not interline with any other scoot sectors, there are plenty of LCCS & full service carrier options ex SIN.

JQ always had the chance for both ports & sectors though never executed it... My main concern is the longevity of these sectors.. But knowing SQ's research & financial values, it will be a bit of a teaser for Air Asia & JQ.

Hopefully with Scoot scooting around and taking away some budget conscious travellers, I hope QF discounts even further some of the ex-SIN fares. I usually buy a few of these ex-SIN fares annually, never paying more than $700 SIN-SYD-SIN, so if it comes down to $600 I will be a happy camper, and BIS points are a definite bonus

Wanted to book a weekend trip for the Formula One, but my brother won't join me - would have gone over in Y, back in "J" to hope to sleep. Less than $500 return was good value.

I realise that. I'd be certain they do have SYD-SIN business but it's via MEL. Probably the Scoot deals are not widely enough known to be a threat at the moment. I'd expect to see JQ price responses in future if the settled price on Scoot undercuts them as it undoubtedly will.

I just booked to give a try and if we decide not to go it's not to much lost. I got caught up in the low cost hype and the "I have to get that bargain mode" without thinking of taking a 2 and half year old away for only 5 days. It was $552 all up return for 2 adults and 1 child. The only positive is that we will have a little more elbow room with the little one, maybe I could use some of our points to return on a Virgin flight. Who knows what I will do however the late September to early October travel period gives me time to see the flight feedback and reviews.

I managed to book, luggage and a meal $127 odd including extra luggage (default=15kg) so 5kg for $4 more seems wise.
I booked OW because near all $88 fares gone, none on a fri/sat/sun and none next to each other so shortest special would be 2 weeks apart. I figure the non-special 2am redeye Scoot $199 for a standard return is good value - but I will punt AirAsia or JQ will put on a matching special so I can just spend < week away - or plan another short hop to HK later.

Website works well, clean , simple and not annoying , but some $88's are $199 when you select them , which is correct, and indicates to me that cheapies are being booked hard! No December fares are listed. I have a funny feeling OW Singapore to SYD in $SG dollars is cheaper and shows more availability, so may book that RTN flight.

It's not 9.5 hrs only 7! (or 6:50 to be exact, which is a little odd as SQ schedule 7.5hrs on 773's on same route). Think of it as a day flight, after all 0250 is really 0450 SYD time... Can see people missing this flight catching 3 hrs kip in SIN before boarding.

Personally I find the post midnight departures, especially in Y, much better for sleeping (because I am dog tired) than pre-midnight departures (because I am not), although 0250 is pushing it a bit...

True - it's seven hours if you're flying into Sydney, but alas I'd face another 1.5 hours flying to MEL plus 1+ hour clearing customs/waiting etc. It'd mean it'd be unlikely I'd be home in bed and starting to recover before 3PM....

(Also, to be taken with a shaker of salt, a couple of days ago, as I was walking down Exhibition St near Nauru House, I could've sworn I saw a woman walk past wearing a Scoot polo t-shirt.)

Burnt some QFF points to get a MEL-SYD leg and I'm sorted. By comparison, couldn't find a direct MEL-SIN flight for less than $1k.

EK offered flights ex MEL and BNE at 0300 and have been able to sustain them so I dont think the departure time is a major issue.

Is it possible to condition one self to be able to sleep on demand?

I used to struggle sleeping on aircraft in the early days of travel but now I can almost sleep at will. I have lost count of the number of times I have slept before take off on a SYD-BNE and vv flight and woken up for meal service and then found myself asleep again. It also helps that with most flights I am tired.

Anyway it works for me but I am not going to rush and book Scoot in a hurry factoring in seat selection and golf clubs on top of the airfare.

The flight actually departs at 2:10am... it actually works well for SIN-based pax. A bit of a late night, but there won't be any cabin movement at 3am origin time serving breakfast.

$225SGD for SIN-SYD return is excellent... I never thought that it would be possible to fly SIN-SYD for less than CBR-SYD...

I'm booked for mid-August... let's see how that compares to the QF SG experience... taking the costs difference into account, of course.

At least there airfare prices include all taxes and surcharges as well.

I think this launch sale pretty much replicate ones from other LCCs - the website goes into meltdown mode, all the cheap seats disappear in an instant, and hardly anyone is buying the "business" version despite being heavily discounted.

I am seriously considering getting the business fares for the F1. As a QF/DJ Platinum, I understand that my changes of getting into the QF lounge are nil. Is there any remote chance that the DJ lounge would let me in?

Can anyone offer suggestions on lounge (or even bar) options in Sydney or Singapore?

Also, can anyone provide any insight to the F&B service on these flights? Will buying a 'business' fare entitle us to booze?

The DJ lounge will let you in, but DJ (or VA) only operate lounges on the Australian domestic network. Trying to get into the lounges designated for Velocity elites but operated by other airlines will not work. But, you can always try.

The Scoot website simply says that "up to 2 complimentary meals with beverages" are included in ScootBiz. Not very clear at all, though the naive interpretation might say that it's open slather.

There's actually no prices for the meals or drinks up on the website (unless I'm looking in the wrong place).
