Just booked 2 x return international (premium reward) Y+ for 40200 (no cash) if my maths is right then that should be after family pooling a total of 360 status points. I think that is a good return!!:):)

One would think that this may be a good one for the spreadsheet :D

Question on bookings with Velocity..

I've got a booking in a couple of weeks for 2 passengers. I will be taking the flight however the other passenger can't make it. Am I best to just call Velocity and explain it? I'm just concerned that they will cancel or do something else quite drastic.

I am a bit confused about the whole spreadsheet thing... what is that about again?:confused:

It's a google doc that has been established for good deals found/booked with VA.

We prefer not to post on the forum for fear of the deal disappearing quickly.

OK, then that makes sense. How does one post on the "spreadsheet" '''evil sigh''':evil:

Is it domestic or international.... I know what I would be doing if it was domestic.... International is a different story.

International. I'd be happy the check in my other half and claim her SC's via family pooling.... but I don't think that's the right thing to do.

Wow, so I'm not alone (in fact, no doubt I'm one of many!). I had my wife booked on a J reward a month or so back, booked just prior to the news about earning points on rewards seats. I rang up to 'explore' the possibilities of re-booking. I was quite clear and explicit (I thought) about not wanting to pay more, just wanting to check first on availability etc. Next thing I know, the operator had cancelled my booking (without my request) and couldn't seem to re-book it!! It took about 2-3 days of stress and hassling (mostly from my wife who is going to a family wedding!) before we finally had a new booking. In the end we got economy, rather than a J booking, but got extra $$ back?!? So a lot of effort for probably not many points, and in the end, from what others are reporting, I probably would have got the J points anyway!!! Seemed to me like the agent had no real clue and similar to lobo's story, the phone conversations were no doubt bemusing to others (frustrating to me) as the agent tried offering all sorts of different days/routings etc. despite my pleas for the same flight!!

Hi,

Sorry if it's been covered earlier. I wanted to know a list of the long haul flights that Virgin Australia operates as one of the conditions is that flights operated by partners are out. Any business class rewards on these are somewhat similar to a jASA while the promotion is on. The only two that I could find are:

SYD->AUH
SYD->LAX

I couldn't find a good way to search all on Virgin's route map. Are there any others?

Thanks,
Paul

Those 2, as well as BNE-LAX and MEL - LAX

What is it with airline call centres. I had the same problem with Virgin Atlantic the other week. (The Australian call centre) I was simply making an inquiry re the possibility of changing and before I new it she had changed the flight and was going to charge me more. I told her that I was only making an inquiry at this stage. She went and changed it without me telling her to do it and then when I said "thanks but no thanks" she then said I would have to pay more to change it back. After a little tit for tat she changed it back for the same price... They obviously don't listen half the time. Having said that when I made this original booking which was with the UK call centre the lady at the other end was fabulous. Friendly patient, new what she was talking about, asked a few questions about Australia etc... It was a very pleasant experience.

I noticed in the Feb Virgin Magazine that it states that Virgin is the *ONLY* airline where you can get SCs in reward bookings. Qantas has the same on their Any Seat Awards, so it is clearly incorrect! Unusual for such a big mistake to be advertised.

I don't really consider Any Seat awards to be true 'awards'. Obviously VA's promo is the equivalent of awarding SCs on QF's classic awards...which actually book into award booking fare classes.

Let me tell you: no one cares.

I doubt anyone in the media cared. On top of that, QF may have had a slight technicality in that only one kind of reward booking (if you can call it that) earned SCs and points, not both. Whereas with this six month promo, all VA rewards (i.e. "Reward" and "Any Seat") can earn SCs and points.

Notwithstanding that QF probably press their Classic Awards more than their Any Seat Awards, of which Classics do not earn any SCs or points.

The other way to look it at is that on a like-for-like basis, VA offer something which gets SCs and points that QF do not for the likewise product. Again, a technicality because QF ASAs can be reduced down to Classic levels (as we on AFF often do), and the cash differential is often small (or not significantly worse than the equivalent Classic).

So in short, no one cares. It's a nice carte-blanche marketing ploy by VA. Certainly it's been picked up a lot in the FFP circles (e.g. covered rather by the Boarding Area bloggers).

Geez , I just won't say anything next time.

No big deal. Sorry if I came across as oppressive.

You're not alone in your observation; indeed, I also made the remark myself.

But from the outset when the announcement was made, even though we all knew better here, there was no adverse reaction. No reaction from Qantas, no reaction from any FFP blogs, no reaction from any outlets who deal in the frequent flyer circles (e.g. AusBT). So I'm just saying - some of us have observed similar to you, but as it stands no one really cares.

As we all know, nothing is truly "false" until someone proves or convinces otherwise. A lie can be the truth as long as no one disputes it. And then we have another layer of technicality on top of it (as exemplified by bcworld).

It is clearly a claim in relation to classic awards not "cash equivalent" awards. The point was clear to me.
