Seat selection at T-80

interesting that others don't get necessarily get phone calls when things go wrong - my experience over the last 12 months or so is that they call me every time.

I am thankful that there have been insufficient issues with flights to warrant a call ;) Mind you on my two recent bigger domestic delays I was surprised not to get a call - being a P1 and all...

My comment was a general comment.

There is not a lot of difference between Gold and Platinum. It depends on what is important to you.

- The international first lounge worthy of that status is SYD First Lounge. There is nothing special about the First lounges in HKG and/or BKK and SIN when they had one.

The only I would take here is for example at NRT and HKG and LHR you can use the best F lounges available so your WP has a lot more benefit than just the SYD/MEL F lounges.

Expert flyer simply show what the GDS return.

Until Altea and notional seats takes over it's generally accurate. After T-80 (or whenever) it's not so accurate as far as seat blocking goes - (being an 'average' representation I assume).

Somtime your PCV may be higher than that returned by E/F, sometimes lower ...

I'm certainly no "Expert Flyer" expert, but before this flight it seemed to accurately reflect the QANTAS seat maps - in real time too. As I typically would change my seat at T-80ish, when I followed up with a look in EF, it would show me (and my shadow on a good day) at the new seat, and the old seat (and the associated B/E shadow) as vacant.

As others have mentioned

Wrong
There is no right or wrong.

Everyone sees the benefits differently. As I Platinum I have lost more benefits than I can remember where as Gold at the same time has gained more benefits.

Some people think this is fair and indicative of what it takes to achieve both these statuses. I do not. It does not make me wrong....

No, what people thought was wrong was not your opinion on whether the relative benefits of gold and platinum are "fair", but your statement that there is no difference in the benefits of platinum and the benefits of gold. Whether the two used to be more different or not does not mean that you are right when you say there's no difference!

Had you said you feel the benefits of platinum have been eroded and that you think there are too many benefits for gold given the relative ease of attaining it, I don't think anyone would have said you were wrong (even if they'd disagreed). But when you make a blanket statement that there's no difference between the two levels, then you can expect to have that challenged!

The post you quoted did not mention that there is no difference between Platinum and Gold.

- Platinum One is the old Platinum with a few extra frills and very hard to obtain
- Platinum is almost identical to Gold
Please do not misquote me and then people make me out to be stupid.

In my opinion Platinum is almost identical to Gold. Others can have their own opinion.

Sorry for leaving the word "almost" out. My point still stands. You made a blanket statement. Other people think it's wrong and will say so.

First seat selection since being a QC member. Bronze. For a flight on Wednesday. Previously have only been able to select up to say, row 16....however tonight it was showing a seat in row 4 available, as well as most in row 5, I however chose an exit row seat.

I didn't think QC memberships unlocked so many seats, I was under the impression it only unlocked a few rows ahead of Bronze - previously even this far out the furthest forward I have got was row 15-16 or so......Happy, but curious....Cheers!

My case in point.

A Qantas club member is able to select the same seats as a Platinum at T-80 hours.

I know, right! Actually, I think I might take the seat in row 4...Then wear my singlet, hi-viz and thongs just to shake it up a bit!

Is it a middle seat? Take the Sydney Morning Herald with you as well. That will upset the Platinums either side. ;)

No issues here selecting row 4 on a 738 at 80 hours out

Can pretty much always get 4A or 4F, however it's annoying that anyone can also pick those seats at that time

From memory even a bronze member can get row 4 at 80 hours ?

They may, but it depends on their place in the pecking order for the remaining seats.

Of course, once they reach the airport, all bets are off (depending on the benevolence of the check-in agent).

Well, this lowly QC Bronze just selected 4A. But understand that could be bumped....no biggie...
