So is everyone else getting this error everytime or is it just me. The previous posts seem to indicate it's random but I get it everytime. Just bad luck maybe?:(

Whatever - would you just let us know if you are seeing this for seat selection when booking the flight or for online checkin? (i.e. when was the flight booked, when will it depart, can you manage your booking, will you be Y or J class, what status are you? Can you see a seatmap that looks correct? are you trying to select exit row seats? what browser etc?) I am just curious, as I have no VA flights booked yet so can't replicate the problem myself.

I note some people refer to talking to the GCC when calling for seat selection, whereas others mention talking to a Velocity rep - so would calling the GCC 13 67 89 and going through the menu get me to the Gold desk anyway, or is it better to call Velocity directly? From previous experience in dealing with the GCC (as pleasant and polite as the Manila staff are), I really would prefer to talk to someone in Brisbane!

I got through and talk to the Brisbane guys by navigating through the menus to the option that is along the lines of 'to enquire about your Velocity account press 3' which seems to go straight through. They have always been able to allocate seats.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the phone sequence goes as follows:

Call 136789, Press 1, Enter Velocity Number, Press 4, Press 3

I've seen this a few times at the booking stage. About a fortnight ago, I made four bookings one one day, saw this for three of the four, so no consistency.
I didn't bother to ring the GCC to assign seats, but on all of the flights, I got 3A which is what is chosen... so in IME, even though it said it hadn't worked, it had.

That is what I suspected too, as you look at the message screencaptured in post # 521 - its an annoying and slightly misleading "a#$@ covering" message that pops up after seat selection. As you say - the seat selection often sticks in 99% of cases, and as we all know "seat selection" is never garranteed, so maybe we should tell the VA web site guys that there is no point giving us an ambiguous message that neither confirms or denies your requested seat selection.

Just been on the phone to Velocity (who I must say are always friendly to deal with) about selecting seats for MEL-BNE on friday for the lady and I.

7A and 7B is obviously as far forward as we can get. However, what's the best way to move forward? Speak to the lounge angels at Melbourne before checkin?

Cheers

In MEL Lounge now and asked the service desk what they could do. Now have 3A and 3B. Nothing ever a hassle here!

However... wifi is very slow here today! Probably something to do with it being easter... D

I also got te same message. Booking mel cbr 3 days out. Map comes up, this message appears after the payment page. A quick call will fix it.

I have also learned from the male version of a lounge angel that outside of this buggy issue, plats can reserve their seats up to 331 days in advance!

And as some inside info, if you are plat, and want an exit row, check at t-48hrs, and if an exit row is available, and you want it, you can get it for no extra charge. I have not tried this, so uncofirmed in the real world :-)

Thanks! I'll give it a try.

The reason I ask is because when OH rang up for seat selection for his recent trip to the US and spoke to the Gold desk, they told him they could not do seat allocation and transferred him to the GCC (he was only Silver when booking the trip so was stuck in Row 14 in PE, so once he hit Gold, the rest of the cabin "opened up"). However I don't know whether the person he spoke to at the GCC somehow didn't confirm the seat change on the system, because when I checked his reservation a few weeks prior to the trip, he was still in the original seats in Row 14 both ways!! Luckily the seats he HAD selected were still available, so I was able to change them online (all this was pre-Sabre).

Just checked in for my MEL - SYD flight on Thursday, I selected 5B & C. Im a SG and travel partner is red.

I received this on my booking also for a flight on the 14 APR back from ADL . I spoke with the GCC tonight and they preallocated me 3A as VA Gold . Let see if i keep it .

So is everyone else getting this error everytime or is it just me. The previous posts seem to indicate it's random but I get it everytime. Just bad luck maybe?:(

Platinum desk rang me today after i submitted some feedback online.

Spoke at length about current seat selection issues, she said that those issues are confirmed fixed as of 31st March (specifically non status pax able to select row 3 at T-48/24 and inability to change seats online). So, is it fixed?

Noticed this on friday, I could select row 3 as plat but partner could not get past row 4 as gold for a next day flight. So I assume the only way to get row 3 is at a checkin counter or lounge from now on.

Wasn't fixed for me on Tuesday Syd to Mel. As an SG couldn't select anything from row 7 foward from the time booking was made.. Did online checkin on Monday night, there were quite a few vacant seats foward of row 7 on the actual flight.

What really peeved me was in 3A-C was a young couple with a baby which from what I observed were not frequent flyers. No bag tags and checked boarding pass twice to make sure they were in the right seat.

Have to see about the non-VFF flyers. Hopefully rows 3-7 are left for status flyers only (I'm more concerned about the checkin staff just shoving non-status pax in anywhere that's easy for them).

Row 3 on the E Jet seems to be for disabled or immobile pax (maybe babies included??). Elderly couple who required wheelchairs were seated on my SYD-BNE this week (for ease of mobility it would seem).

Not sure if anyone else has experienced this but the past few flights I have booked iv been able to allocate myself row 3 at time of purchase but then it's not saved for some reason even though it indicates it has saved. Rang the helpdesk and they said it was a problem they are having at the mo, apologies if there's been a bunch of posts on this already in the thread (been a long day)

Exclusively? Surely not?

I have absolutely no issues with mobility impaired or elderly pax being seated were most suitable, including row 3.
