Seat selection in new system?

Seat selection for DL flight numbers on VA metal seems to be available through DL.com

I had requested seats through Velocity's call centre but it doesn't seem to have come across but the seats I selected are unavailable. As its on VA metal which seat selection will stick?

so I'd suggest waiting until right on when the flight opens for check in to grab a seat further forward. :)
Not such a good move if the best seat you can get at T-48 hours is row 7 and beyond. Once checked in the seat cannot be changed online.

Have been informed row 3 opens for golds (if available) upon check in at the airport.
If we wait until check-in opens at airport then row 3 will be well and truly gone. Need to be extremely lucky.

I guess Platinums may be pretty peed off too, as right up to checkin, they're thinking they know who's sitting where i.e. spare seat next to them etc. Then when they board, the spare seat is filled by a Gold. No chance to re-locate.

That's always been the case though - only way to get a seat spare next you to is either luck or convincing someone to block out the seat.

I was thinking this... They have made Row 3 a Plat benefit which can simply be eroded at check-in - I would have preferred if it was completely Plat only.

I completely understand some some people are not happy with the change, but at the end of the day as I have said previously, the benefits for each level need to be more defined.

Better seating on the plane is an important one for Plats - especially since Plats have to fly twice that of Golds (in status credits) to get/keep their level and hence they should get a defined better seating benefit.

Er, may I ask.......do you mean a cough idea of VAs, or cough information from EuroKick?

A cough idea from VA. If you don't allow it at T-24 for online check-in, why allow it at the airport for counter check-in?! Just simply block it out for plats only and open it only when you have no other choice (like when the flight is completely full).
I accept that the benefits for WPs needs to be more defined and it is only fair that row 3 on the B738s be reserved for them. It was nice to get row 3 as a SG and that was my main reason for choosing VA over QF but, with the latest changes, that advantage for VA has just disappeared.

Presumably the lounge staff will not enjoy being asked by every single gold member whether they can move forward from their row 7+ seat..

This change seems overkill in the same vein as removing silvers from priority check-in. Were there really that many disgruntled platinums in row 4? I suppose they might be planning for future growth.

Something else I have just noticed too with the new seating arrangements. I was originally in row 3 for a flight coming up on Feb 1, which I had called up to assign, and I've just been moved to row 7 (sometime between T-14 and T-13). There had better not be any changes for my transcon flight coming up in 5 days or I will not be a happy camper!

I was originally in row 3 for a flight to ZQN on Friday, but now in row 16!!

As a Platinum, I appreciate how Virgin are starting to value my Status, by providing a defined difference between the seating of status levels. Simple solution, to those coughing and moaning, if you are Gold and dont like being in row 7, pay for a J seat, or get to Platinum, its not that hard really .
Flame suit is on, hammer the cough out of me now!

Agreed MarkD.

I often book late, ie within two or three days of the flight, and the forward rows are well and truly locked up by then (with exception of middle seats of course) and based on my observations of luggage tags, row 3 is an area heavily occupied by Golds. I look forward to access to better seats.

Fair comments....

But I don't agree with reassigning existing seat assignments.

IMHO that's not on.

Also - I think row 7 is a bit extreme.

How about row 5?

In other words - block the front two rows for WP.
