Seat selection in new system?

E/F seat map is all solid seats for the entire plane. Way too many than what I'd expect to be check in or selected at this stage. I'm assume both assigned, selected and check in seats all show solid with no X's being used. :?:

There are about 7 seats taken off screen, Maybe I should have went for the back....
I've read and re-read, and perhaps I am misunderstanding but I can't see a "all solid seats" on the screenshot posted.

Err, yep, read your 320, my response (323) was a reply to that. I get you have a different point of view to me, you've now said the same thing a couple of times - I am hearing you but i simply disagree with you.
OK it just seemed that you had not picked up on what I was saying.

What Virgin are doing is of little difference to many airlines and it is deliberate. (Very similar to how QF do it) I have studied this and worked at this for many years so it is not just a personal conclusion.

having said that I agree that the current VA system of seat allocations is broken and needs some serious sorting out. As I have posted there is a patch to be applied in the next few days and they are optimistic that a lot of the issues will be resolved with that and that at the very least the seat allocation system will work again. That will then flow on to the call centres getting back to normal etc etc.

serfty,

My IT abilities to post seat maps is challenged so I cannot post same.

The bookings I made this week to/from NAN showed all seats allocated (i.e. all solid seats) until about row 10. This was both on the VA web site and on EF. When I rang to do seat allocations I had the pick of the a/c.

This was at the time of booking I presume.

So, E/F (when you put yon Velocity (WP) number in) will show the available seating relevant to the status.

FWIW my SG number shows 3-6 as "allocated" blue squares, no block X's or anything else. This matches what I see for seat selection when booking.

You must have read so much that you've glossed over the word "show". However, it was poor punctuation on my part and I'm probably missing words. Sorry. Basically trying to say there are no X seats in that seat map. I find that strange with me being the 6th person checked in and what I assume would be limited seat selection for the flight. Unless of course if pre-assigned seats show as solid for VA unlike QF where they seem to be X's.

I am VA Plat and have never been able to select a seat for a guest when booking or OLCI however myself and guest/s have always been in row 3 (1 depending on ac). Since then I have not even bothered about seating till at the airport and has never been an issue

Pre-SABRE - E/F or KVS would not show and seat maps for DJ glights.

Now they do, but X is missing.

Here's an SG view of a flight MEL-SYD in May:

Just completed OLCI my flight for tomorrow morning, delighted that I could select any seat up to Row 3, happily there was a window seat in Row 3 not taken. I'm guessing something has changed and GS can now select the forward section within XX hours of the flight, very pleased with this change.
A minor issue was that I couldn't use my phone as a boarding pass (kept rejecting my mobile phone number) so elected airport pickup, will post a more detailed note in the appropriate thread.

Excellent news!

Haven't read through the thread but there is no way to select a seat online for my J Reward booking made well after the Sabre change over. Had to call VA today (flight next week). Agent went on about "bugs in the system" lol!!

It can only be done over the phone at the moment, which is one reason I had another blue with VA on Friday. I was told 2 weeks ago it will take months to fix!

Given I believe I read someone say that they recently could do 1A at OLCI as a SG (non J route), for my Ejet BNE-ROK, should I seat select on booking (row 1,2,3 blocked), leave it and hope 1,2,3 becomes available at OLCI or try a move in the BNE lounge?

I'd be as happy as a pig in mud with a single J seat, even without the J product!

More SG data points.

OLCI @ T-48 BNE-ROK (non-J route) I could select 2F on an 738 which I did.
Could OLCI at the same time for return, but only as far forward as row 4 on an Ejet (old config showing), which I declined to do.

OLCI @ T-48 ROK-BNE, I could select as far forward as row 3. Tempted but declined. I'll look again tomorrow.

Interesting experience. Asked to grab an aisle seat in the lounge. Upgrade was mentioned due to a cancelled flight, leave it with me. Anyway, upgrade didn't happen (fair enough), but the explanation included the words but I've kept you in 3B. Umm ok then.

I guess the lounge angels have to also deal with their "human" computers. What you describe sounds a lot like the LA being so focussed on upgrading you, that she simply forgot your original request. When upgrade couldn't happen she probably thought row 3 was the golden one (forgetting you requested a nearby C or D over B).

Yes. Experienced the same with J Reward. On another flight I booked Flexi and upgraded it and once the upgrade was applied I could no longer access the booking, so no seat selection on that one now either. What a mess ! They obviously think it is acceptable. Like most business travellers I change flights frequently, so having to call every time is a right pain.

Yeah, sounds reasonable. I actually got the wrong LA because the last time the flight to BNE was cancelled the other one did upgrade me. Stupidly I did try to get any information from 3A and C.

I'm now trying to decide if I'm annoyed about being told no upgrade because J is full when it wasn't, or whether I don't care because the situation didn't warrant an upgrade anyway.

They don't think it is acceptable but it is all that is currently available. There is/was an update due to be applied about now that they were hopeful would resolve that issue.

Well I do have some sort of response to my enquiries from Velocity (which to their credit answered a complaint from a Silver pretty quickly). I have de-identified the sender and recipient so I trust this is safe with the mods?

Since the launch of the Sabre Toothless Tiger I noticed the seat map has gone from a "north-south" view of the plane to an "east-west" view (or west-east really). I see from the screenshots above that they are back to normal? I haven't got a booking at present to check so don't know.

I did hate the new orientation and won't be sad if it's changed back. Conservative bugger that I am. I don't mind change but I do mind change for change's sake.
