Background to this thread:

In a similar vein to the "Flight Availability / Upgrade Probability Help Desk" there has an increase in the posting of questions about specific seat allocation/availability on a flight. These are all valid questions and we all appreciate the efforts our members go to to provide answers.

The only drawback is that our forums can become "cluttered" with such queries. This tends to reduce the overall usability of our site.

This new consolidated thread is where you can ask questions about seating allocation/availability. Hopefully, this will reduce clutter and improve usability.

Guidelines for posting in this thread:

Please post questions about availability of specific seats in this new consolidated thread. Be sure to include the airline, flight number, Origin, Destination, date and cabin as applicable.

When answering questions, please include the original question. This will assist in readability and management of the thread.

Re: Double SC Promo

I did this last weekend. I took 1K and 1J - lots of leg room. But then at the times these flights are out of SYD it doesn't matter.

They arnt the best business class seat, but I think the SC's are the important part of the trip.

(and sometime next year the 744's are being replaced with ex-Singapore 777s

5D and E are fine, unless you want to look out a window.

Here is a recent trip report from someone who has done the Bne-Mel-Syd-Nan-Syd-Mel-Bne J run:

Bula – Fiji With Air Pacific & Qantas (+ Pics) - FlyerTalk Forums

There is a seat map of the FJ 744 a/c in the report. Currently, I'm in 1B to Nan, and 2J from Nan.
Thanks.

I have made a booking today and we have Row 3A & B SYD-NAN and Row 1J & K NAN-SYD.

Hi all, am also new here.

Have been allocated 29j and 29k on our flight from SYD to LAX and are flying with an economy ticket. All seating configurations that we have found have us either in Business class or Premium Economy seats. Is it possible that we have been accidentally placed in Business or Premium seats? Flight out of Sydney is in early 2011 QF107.
:p

G'day Funksta76, welcome to AFF. :D

Hard to tell without the date.

Is the seating configured 3x4x3, 2x4x2 or 2x3x2 in row 29?

Well I've got an interesting one on 23 Dec, QF743. Seat selected 6D. T-80 has past and Qantas will only let me seat select 25E on a 734. This has switch around a little bit during the day 25B, 24F.
Expertflyer is showing me a seat map with 3 available seats (25E,F, 24F), a handful of taken seats including 6D and the rest of the seats as blocked (X).
Expert flyer availability is J4, D4, I1, Y7 the rest zero.

Given my inability to select only one seat and the almost full load and all the blocks, does that mean everyone else on the flight is either a WP or CL?

Anyway, I would appreciate any thoughts or insights as to what all this information might mean.

It would appear that the seat map is stuffed. What does Your Booking show as the seat allocated? If still showing 6D then I would leave it alone until OLCI at T-24.

By the way this has happene to me in the past when only a few seats were available on the seat map but I already another seat pre-allocated.

Yeah, it is rather strange. But, yes, it is showing me as being in 6D and that is showing as taken in Expertflyer. I also should have mentioned that it is classic award. Maybe QF has limited my choice because of that, if so a bit annoying.

It has happened to me on a paid booking so I believe the award booking has nothing to do with it.

The seat map has somehow become corrupted and it is not able to detect you already have 6D allocated and it is offering you the best it can find. Try again at OLCI and you should have more luck.

Oh sorry, I'm leaving out information, the qantas seat map shows me in 6D, so it detects me what is strange is that every other seat is showing as taken, except one seat - 22B now. That is extremely strange because I, as a WP, should be able to bump a NB or even a non-FF out of 23C before they check in, if I so choose. I agree that it is probably corrupted some how. Unless there really is a flight full of WPs and CLs going to ADL. ;)

I have once before seen what you say about not detecting me, but in that case I had plenty of seats to choose from row 8 rearwards. Anyway, I'll put it down to random weirdness.

I would have postulated that maybe your WP status has been somehow lost from the booking and you are seeing a non elite picture.

However you indicate E/F is returning similar.

Good point Serfty. A lot of times on Classic Awards eg X class they don't enter the FFN into the pnr for some reason.

The system is smart enough to not award points or SC to these awards so I dont' see a problem with it being in the booking.

It's important for SSRs like meals etc not to mention the all important seating issue.

Actually that might explain what is happening. Earlier this year I kept getting a message that my booked classic awards were ineligible for seat selection. This was one of those classic awards. I ended up ring the platinum line and getting seats selected and then also sending in feedback a few times. Someone said that they would find the problem, but I forgot about it and never ended up hearing if anything happened. Seat selection seems to work now but seemingly only at a NB or nothing nothing level.

E/F actually shows me 2 extra seats over Qantas, but still not what I would expect as a WP.

Availability has now changed to J2 D2 I1 Y9. More Y seats less J seats. I'm hoping that might mean a chance for an op-up - well slightly more than no chance.

Isn't it the other way around? To have a chance for an op-up you woild need to have more availability in the premium cabin and an oversold economy cabin.

I'm certainly no expert at this stuff or even average at it. I just assume that as the Y availability has increased over the last couple of days (5-7-9) and the J buckets have decreased by rough similar amounts (5-4-2) that they might be overselling Y. Massive assumption by me. Equally likely they are selling J seats and Y people are moving flights, I guess.

QF743 23Dec SYD/ADL has 4 J & 3 Y seats as at 0917 CST 22 Dec.

Thanks!
E/F is now showing Y7 and zero everything else at about 1050 EDT, about 920 CST (?). The difference being due to E/F being US availability, I guess.

Oh! Just checked the seat map - E/F is now showing 4 empty seats and QF still gives now gives me 3 options. Yay!

Nice. I didn't end up in 6D or 4C and if Ozbeachbabe had anything to do with my final seat - thank you very much. I almost want to have your baby. ;)

Did you get to fly the plane? Seriously I'm not guilty scouts honour! :p :p

Not exactly. I ended up in 1F, upgraded by the gate agent. It seems my guess about upgrade chances might have be right. But most likely that I was extremely lucky. Overall the flight was full including J. I think I heard someone talking to the gate agent about how they got on from standby. I checked E/F while pax were boarding and it showed something like J2 - but they were definitely taken. E/F also had 1 empty seat in the Y cabin.

SYD to JFK 14/1/2011 - Kangaroo or Pacific config?

Hi Folks,

Im on QF107 Sydney to JFK on the 14/1/2011 and just wondering which seating configuration it will be. I've been trawling this site for a definitive answer but cant find it.

I rang qantas for my seat selection and was offered (and took) seat 53K. I've just wondering whether the metal i will be on places this seat behind the crew rest area or is just another economy seat.

Expert flyer, Seat Guru and Expedia throw up different configurations.

Cheers.

Re: SYD to JFK 14/1/2011 - Kangaroo or Pacific config?

You will be on a 747 to LAX and then an A330 onwards to JFK. 53K is just a normal window economy class seat.
