Background to this thread:

In a similar vein to the "Flight Availability / Upgrade Probability Help Desk" there has an increase in the posting of questions about specific seat allocation/availability on a flight. These are all valid questions and we all appreciate the efforts our members go to to provide answers.

The only drawback is that our forums can become "cluttered" with such queries. This tends to reduce the overall usability of our site.

This new consolidated thread is where you can ask questions about seating allocation/availability. Hopefully, this will reduce clutter and improve usability.

Guidelines for posting in this thread:

Please post questions about availability of specific seats in this new consolidated thread. Be sure to include the airline, flight number, Origin, Destination, date and cabin as applicable.

When answering questions, please include the original question. This will assist in readability and management of the thread.

I believe on JL website you enter in the first name field your first and middle name as one (no spaces) and then just your flight details.

If you are a JMB member do not log in. Instead go to the tab 'MANAGE BOOKING'.
On next page select 'MANAGE FLIGHT BOOKING' Continue as a non JMB member.

From there on it is straight forward,
JL..flight no.....
Boarding Date.....
Last Name....
First name...
Reservation no.......

The option to select seats is available, as well as special meal requirements.

Make sure you are at https://www.jal.co.jp/au/en/

Hope this helps.

Hi, please help suggest a better forum if one exists?

I have a OW Award ticket with Qantas with two segments on JL, and I'm trying to find my booking reference so I can select seats on the JAL web site- is this possible without calling Qantas? I have tried using the Qantas PNR but it is not accepted by the JAL web site, so I am assuming they use a different GDS and don't recognise Amadeus PNR's - is that right? I was able to load the booking on British Airways (and select seats on my BA flights), and it also loads on the Royal Jordanian site which has been recommended on this forum.
Try the MMB option on the Royal Air Maroc site, should work even for the JAL flights.

I'm flying J on a Qantas A330, are the odd or even rows closer to the Window?

I've found conflicting information from seat maps

Even Rows are closer to the windows ... generally. There is some variance in the rear seats but not in your configuration.

Check these seat maps - they are normally spot on:

Personally, I'd take 7F - away from the aisle and significantly more room in the footwell.

Not sure if this is the right place to ask but...

I have an existing QF 319K Classic award booking.

One of the sectors was originally MH608 and at the time of booking there were no J award seats available so I accepted Y seats for this sector.

Subsequently MH bumped me to MH610 leaving a few hours later (early Oct9th) after they cancelled MH608 on Oct 8th.

Today I noticed 3 J award seats are available on MH610 on the flight we are booked.

I rang the QF call centre and asked to be changed over to J seats as that is what I should be entitled to under the award ticket I booked - - they flatly refused to deal with it saying it is not their issue and they cannot upgrade on any flight other than a QF metal flight.

Is this correct - or am I being fed overseas call centre💩 to get rid of me?

When you accepted the Y class option, did they credit the 10,000 points difference for that segment, or were you left paying 20,000?

I would think if you paid the full J sticker value you could escalate for that change, but as to how hard and long that fight would be is the question. And the 'win' might just be a credit of the extra points paid, rather than upgrading you to J on the ticket. You might also need to pay change fees in points which adds another sum; 'fly flexible' conditions might cover this though.

MH J is nicer than MH Y, but also worth keeping in mind it's often a 45 minute flight with a packet of nuts and a soft drink (even in J), so it mightn't be worth the hassle, unless you are relying on it for lounge access in SIN for the transit??

Cheers,
Matt.

Hi Matt - Its a fixed 319K award J ticket regardless of class flown - so there is no "refund" of 10K points up for grabs.

Because the change can't be made online (AFAIAA), no change fee applies.

I'm a QC member and hold a DINERS award card so not overly concerned about lounge access.

I think you already know the answer. HUACA.

Think of it as a flight change. You want to cancel the Y flight and book the J flight. Simples!

Their confusion is over the term ‘upgrade’. This is not an upgrade but a reassignment into another class.

I would ring back and mention you noticed seats are now available in business class and you’d like to move there. This doesn’t come without risk… they’ll probably want to cancel that segment, or the entire ticket, to rebook you.

If the latter I’d steer well clear.

Oh - it’s like a DONE4 award. Sorry, thought it was a multi-city classic. I didn’t recognise the 319K part 🙂

In that case, I’d do as others have said and give it another try without reference to it being an upgrade. It’s a J fare you paid for, and i expect you are entitled to fly J on any available /eligible segments.

Good luck!

Cheers,
Matt.

Hi folks, I was very lucky to have scored award seats in EK first through to Rome. This is very probably the only time I'll ever fly in that class, so I want to make the most of it. Please help me choose my seats!

I cannot comment on the 777 but on the 380 I don't believe there is a bad seat. I've only ever done 1K and never been disappointed or found it too noisy near the bathroom (n.b. light loads on my flight so could not comment if it gets noisy near the shower bathroom on a full F service).

I flew HKG-JFK on the CX 777-300 and sat in 1A. Loved it.
Would recommend that you stay there and enjoy it.

For the A380, I prefer the A side as a matter of personal preference and would take any seat there over the K side.
If 4A got to deplane first then that would be my first choice.

2A on the 777 is my personal choice.
Avoid 4A/K on the A380.
Right next to one of the galley spaces and the crew congregate right behind you. You will also be last to be offered a shower slot. Still a great experience, I just find the traffic and noise/light a bit annoying, but that's just me (grumpy old man).

4A back right of pic. You can see how close to the crew you are.
I was in 3A last time and it is fine.

I would add to avoid 1A and 1K as well, while they are fine seats generally, they are aligned next to the curtain which leads to the showers/First bar/lobby-type area, so there may be comings and goings as people go to the bathrooms during the flight. The main reason I would avoid these seats, however, is that they have 1 fewer window than row 2 or 3, and they are also slightly narrower due to curvature of the fuselage.

Edit: this is in ref to the A380 only ofc, the 777 row 1 is a good choice.

Thanks all, I think for now I'm staying 1A on the 777 (because I kind of want to sit in the first seat and advice above doesn't contradict it being worthwhile) but I've moved to 2K on the A380. Really appreciate everyone taking the time to give me advice.
