Hmm interesting. If I go to to aa.com, to their Australian site, and check my reservation the choice of seats for my RDU-MIA-MCO flights is much more limited, than if i go to the aa.com american site. i've just pushed myself up a few rows!

Also, as a QFF Gold, I can use the Lounge for an AA domestic flights in DFW and MCO?

Yes, no problem. (except there's no A/C at MCO, but there is at RDU)

Make sure you get your Drink Chits - once used you can go back and request more. :D

Chits. :D lol.

I wonder when these will start becoming currency amongst FF's...

You are probably better off using the AA USA website. I looked at the AA Australian website a few times, but have never been back. The USA site was much more comprehensive.

Yeah I've just discovered that too. The benefit of the Australian site is that payments are shown and made in AUD$. But the US Site seems to allow more seating choices and i even noted that the seat maps were different, which is really odd.

While there's no A/C at MCO, there is at RDU. :D

Bizzarre, as you'd except MCO to be a slightly more popular destination for travellers than RDU. I'm in RDU to see family so I can't justify leaving them early to spend time in an airport lounge!

I'm QF Gold and in Y on QF7 SYD DFW in Mid Jan - can't pick the seats in rows 34-39 - either have already been taken or just not open to QF Gold yet. So just wondering if anyone has any experience in how long before the flight those seats have opened up to Gold for selection?

Keep looking, sometime if have seen row 39 opens for SG a fortnight or more out, sometimes a week out - but definitely around T-80.

If you have ExpertFlyer/KVS you can see which seats are actually allocated rather than blocked.

Thanks - I just signed up to EF and can see about half of the seats are blocked out - so suspect they will be released closer to departure date? Have setup an EF alert on them.

Hi Ferni,

I am on QF7 1 Feb 12 in Y, also SG and about three weeks ago I managed to self-select row 39, the last PE row, so it should be possible to you if there are spare seats. I cannot recall if it was available a couple of months earlier when I originally booked but I doubt it because I would have grabbed it then so I guess they do open those seats up gradually. I still have one more mate on that flight who I am keeping an eye out for as only two of us grabbed the 'good' seats, so hopeful as per Serfty's info that more seats open up on my flight.

Thanks for that. Matches what I can see in EF that row 39 is taken but some seats in row 36-38 are still blocked so hopefully they open up. Seems that I've booked a bit late so missed out on first round of those seats in row 39. Hopefully I can pickup a seat in this section.

Great info on this thread thanx! I just booked PE to fly out March 11 2012 and can book 29DK or any row 30 so J seats I believe :) . Expert Flyer shows 29 ABJK are blocked.

Questions
1/ Do you get J service/meals or PE?
2/ Any suggestions as to best seats and is it worth calling QF to release ABJK seats. Newly minted WP so havent had the perks before.

The only upgrade is the seat. Book economy, seat in row 36-39 PE - get economy service.

[CLARIFICATION]
Book PE, Seat in row 29-30 Business, get PE service
Book Business, Seat in row 1-4 First, Get Business Service
[/CLARIFICATION]

Hi Ferni, I'm flying this in 2 weeks and am also QF Gold and was able to select 39C when it was booked a few months ago - so the seats were open for gold straight away. Here's hoping you can get one if the blocked ones are opened up.

Pumped now to understand why it wa this configuration. I had phoned QF a while back to enquire about the seating and they just told me it was Y but I didn't realise it was a PE seat.

...

Note that starting later this year, these aircraft are to be refitted into 3 class J/W/Y with the First Class seats removed, Skybed Mk II (Full Flat) installed for business class.
The refiited aircraft are beginning to make an incursion to this route.

If Economy starts in row 43, PE starts in row 34 with only 2 seats A&B and there is no row 4 in business class then it's a refitted aircraft.

By the end of the year, there should be no 4 class configurations operating this route.

See this seat map: Boeing 747 - Longreach - 58 Business; 36 Premium Economy; 270 Economy
