Seating on QF's direct SYD-DFW route

I guess the times to look for better seating would be when QF are likely to action points upgrades which can now be 7 days beforehand in some cases so prime seats in whY or PE may open up if the previous occupants use points to upgrade to a higher cabin.

Hi - interested to know if anyone has any insights on when they are likely to start replacing the old 4 class config aircraft on the SYD/DFW route. I have a PE booking March 5 and its showing me in the forward seats, back of J I believe. Not sure whether to put in for an upgrade for both of us, or run with the hope that the aircraft will still be the old config then.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I'm flying Syd-DFW on Feb 26th, when i booked back in December, it was the old 4 class, recently checked and it's the newer 3 class. Booking was PE, but managed to get row 30, now in a standard PE seat. Good luck with your flight.

Bummer, they changed without letting you know? Im on this next Wednesday and in the four class (for now!)

Can anyone use Expert Flyer with their status to tell me of the avaialbility on Rows 36-39? Im on QF7 departing on Saturday 28th January out of Sydney to Dallas.

When I look at it it seems like all those rows are blocked out with an X. Which means they are either blocked or I dont have enough status on Expert flyer to look at them.

Regards,

Jonathan

I'm WP, and I see plenty of free seats: 36 D-G; 37 A, J-K; 38 A-K; 39 J. There are also a number of X'd seats, which I presume are reserved for the AA codeshare.

However, as a PS, I don't know whether you're able to allocate those seats at all, or even whether they'd put you in them at checkin. But I guess you can always hope.

I have an upgrade request in for PE anyway, but failing the upgrade I was hoping to see if I could allocate those seats at the last minute..

I'm QFF gold and I can only see 1 open seat in those rows - 39J. Lots of X'd out... I flew QF7 on the 13/01 and couldn't pick from those rows until T-80(hours). Then I managed to snag 36K (there were other seats there available). So my advice is to logon at exactly T-80 which should be Wednesday Morning I think.... I suspect you will be able to select something then...

Sat 28 Jan - that date sounds familiar as it's the same day as the Flounge run. Just keep an eye out for 20 or so noisy people boarding JQ35, although I think our flight departs before yours by 1 hour 40 mins.

Personally I don't think it's worth 45,000 points for PE food/service especially when you will want to sleep a fair chunk of the flight. Each to their own :)

It's really up to you - main reason would be to try to access a Skybed.

FWIW, there may be plenty of Upgrades to business as the flight is currently showing U5.

Thanks Serfty, I doubt that I would get into a Skybed anyway. So Im happy to take a PE seat with Y service and cancelled my upgrade request.

I flew this on Friday - in Y but sat in PE seat in 38 - and it was great. I would just stick with this - you are in a PE seat and it's good value without losing the points for an upgrade.

I'd probably do the same as you Jonno. I read somewhere on AFF that somebody had an awesome sleep in a PE seat. By handing on to the 45,000 points you're just about half half way to buying a JASA from the East Coast of Oz to LAX or HNL is only 60,000 points.

IMHO it's better value getting a JASA outright rather than purchasing an airfare in whY that you may be able to do a points upgrade on.

How do you get From East Coast to LAX or HNL for only 60000points?

Returned from my trip last Friday in PE, the direct flight is fantastic and DFW is infinitely better than having to deal with LAX. Only hiccup was the checkin agent from MCO didn't put priority tags on my bag (for either the PE seat or the QFF gold Status), and as a result the extra 40mins wait at SYD wasn't much fun..

Incidentally, had the best sleep I've ever had on a flight during the DFW to BNE sector, was sitting in the skybed though. 10pm departure is a good time.

Just jumping on the back of this thread - I have an upcoming trip involving DFW-BNE on a refurbed plane in Y

Any experiences or comments on what the best seats are?

I've had a flick through some of the threads/guides but haven't found much in the way of recommendations on the new fit out. Currently I'm planted in 43A

Looks like a decent seat is now gone for me - was in a skybed on a PE ticket on March 5 - SYD/DFW. They must have put a refurb on now and all PE seating again......
Interested in this case as if I hadn't looked I would not have had a seat allocated, there was no seat selected for both of us and only a few remain - hard to see how QF can go from giving you a skybed as a WP (I know without paying) to then back to no choice and the last pick of any seats - does this seem correct, or have I missed something?
