Selling my car... anyone interested?

You might be surprised, after all the most popular car for car theft is a Hyundai excel.

Would that take into account it may well be the easiest car known to man to steal (I'm guessing, I have no evidence on this)? ;)

Wasn't there a few Falcons made that could be started with the oil dipstick? Now that took away the worry of misplacing the car keys!

I can one better that. My old first car (A 1982 Gemini) could be opened with anything. The cylinder on the drivers door was so cactus, it simply let anything turn it.

It did have an immobiliser on it that was pretty sneaky (rigged to the caution light switch) so even if they had broken in, it wasn't going anywhere too quickly.

I guess the Falcon you'd still have to get into the car to pop the bonnet, but that's hardly difficult ;)

As the once owner of an XF Falcon - yes they could be, and it was the MO of most car thieves to do it that way. While my car was only actually stolen once, there were multiple other attemps, and buying new dipsticks gets a bit old after a while

My poor English......I see I should have said "Weren't " !Getting back to the problem there must be a buyer out there or has the east coast recession started to really hit cars?I thought a WRX was a sought after item and almost as good as money and frequent flyer points.

I'm guessing things really just are 'that bad'.

It's been up for coming up to 4 weeks now, and i've had...

- 10 or So SMS's from Marine Biologists/Saudi Princes/Rich Nephews wanting to buy cars for their Uncles/Oil Rig Workers enquiring from numbers of 'Inquiry' and 'Dave' as well as 'Car' (do scammers really thing people are *that* dumb?).
- 1 enquiry from someone who couldn't get the finance for the value I wanted (and actually said he didn't want to insult me with an offer that was then $4500 under asking price; I guess his honesty is to be applauded).
- 1 person call and come look at it. Took it for a drive with me and he's never called back.

On the funny side, there appears to be one other WRX on CarSales 'competing' with me. Every time I drop the price of my Ad, they counteract by dropping theirs by a few hundred below my price. It's amusing :)

There's one for sale on there I contacted as a prospective buyer, and he said he was sticking to his price as he too was awaiting delivery of his new car, and had been given a price from the yard for a trade in that he was happy with (so this was just cream on top if he sold it privately). It has been up there since April at a price that's quite a bit below mine (albeit the car does appear to be in poorer condition with a lot more mileage). It's strange. There really isn't much competition for my car (most have 40-50k more on the clock than mine at similar asking prices, and I already have the RWC done; it's the easiest one to negotiate a deal on if you want to buy it, compared to the others there).

I guess I just have to hope that one random person wanting a WRX suddenly crops up in by Sunday week. Failing that, i'll be kicking myself for not selling it to the guy who couldn't arrange enough finance (I'll really look like an cough if that's the case as i'll have to flog it to a dealer for a lot less than what he offered me).

If the Reserve Bank lifts rates today, I think it's all but over. meh. Stupid market!

I do know of a 1960's V-dub could be started with a 10 cent bit. Haven't heard the Falcon story though.

We had a Toyota corona that would let you remove the key without turning it off. Very handy when needing to put something in the boot at the last minute without turning off the engine. I also got lots of roll start practice in that car including the famous reverse roll start out of the driveway.

Oh forgot about that. The Gemini had the same. Was brilliant during the pre-boot-release-switch days ;)

Thieves love to use WRXs in robberies but they do not purchase them, they steal them instead. ;)

That's not true anymore. When Subaru installed the PIN Pad alarm system, the thefts of them fell to pretty much zero (with the exclusion of towing-thefts; there were no hot-wire thefts pretty much).

Many other cars are the choice of ramraiders these days!

Very true. When I bought my WRX a year ago my insurance premium halved from what I was paying for my VE SS!

They still like to bend people over for WRX insurance. When I got my first one, I was not quite 25. They (any insurance company but Just Cars) would not insure me. Living in NSW (Camperdown) I was paying $1800 a year for insurance. Stupidly high.

I thought '25 was the new 21' when it came to insurance, but it seems not to be the case. 30 is the new 25 and 35 is the new 30. I'm sure they have 40 is the new 35 as well.

The laughable part... RRP on my car, new, ex delivery, GST, stamp duty, etc etc, was around $41,000.

My new car is a magnitude more expensive (it's over 50% more than the WRX was, RRP at least) and my insurance goes down. Considerably.

It's almost as powerful as my WRX, is far more luxurious, is living at the same address as my old car, but because it does not have 'WRX' anywhere on the policy, they'll wipe the price cleaner.

Insurance companies are all thieves IMHO. It's a necessary evil though. Gotta have it, and finance companies will not speak to you if you don't have a certificate of currency, listing them as the interested party.

Sorry for the rant. The GFC 2-dot-oh-no that's happening has made me a little angry that it's highly likely my car will not sell, and i'll take a beating on the price (and be forced to sell it to a car yard for probably $6-7k less than it's actually worth). Is there such a thing as bridging finance for cars? heh:)

Drew, I asked around, and a friend who works for <this agency> is interested :)

Awesome thanks Gordon. They've even promised to pay all fees and to use a trusted Escrow company!

*excited*

(on the up side, someone is coming to look at it tomorrow who seems keen, so, cross fingers!)
