Shoes for Travel

I wear a pair of black leather Campers which are super comfy and can slip on/off so easy for security purposes :) They're casual for daytime and easily pass for a evening shoes too. I also pack a pair of Nike Free Run's so I can go for a run or head to the gym, these shoes are super light.

Depends on what I am planning on doing at the destination.
If I need to suit up, I tend to wear my pair of black dress shoes which just slip on.
If I don't need to suit up, I tend to wear my brown sneakers which again just slip on.

I learn't my lesson about shoes with laces and travel many years ago, esp with big heavy boot which contain enough metal in them to set off metal detectors.

I will never sacrifice comfort over space hence my business shoes travel in my carry on and I usually wear my timberlands scuffs (pictured except navy)

I think we are the same page. Comfort over style and space. :p

Maybe because you haven't seen these yet...

Tasty Floral Trim Ballet Flats - Pink - Target Australia

They are pink AND they have flowers. What's not to love? Ok no EDR bonus points but it is a small sacrifice.

;)

I'm not sure I'll get away from them at an ISO committee meeting in Germany, but I might try them for a Standards Australia committee meeting!!

For the last few years I have been travelling with only one pair of shoes and a 75mL Instant Wax Shine for periods up to 7 weeks.

They have experienced all terrains, weather, dress standards, social conditions and many kilometres of walking.

Including the frozen footpaths of London and Berlin.

I don’t know why I had some uneasiness the first time I wore them at a black tie event and dinner at the Reform Club but that quickly passed and I now have complete equanimity whatever the occasion.

They are extremely comfortable, long wearing, low cost and don’t set off the airport security alarms.

What are these magic shoes you may well ask?

Well they are Hush Puppy Airport Friendly that come in several styles.

Airport Friendly - Technologies

Those Hush Puppies are very similar to the Florsheim shoes I purchased. They do look comfortable.

I wear a pair of black sports shoes. Don't carry any, they're too heavy for carry on luggage only.

Reason 10,562 of why being male is easier.

Shoes are the main reason I find carry-on hard to do for some trips!

Solution - Check in a bag..

That being said if you have a large carry-on (that is within the limits) you can fit a fair amount of cough in there

Combine that with a laptop style bag or even a man-bag and you can be fine

Well the time is nigh, I will shortly (a couple of weeks) be setting off for my first all Y trip to Blighty for three years.....actually I'll be in Germany for the bulk of the trip, and it will be carry on only.

I'm trying to cut my "necessaries" down to an absolute minimum.....including shoes. I normally carry a lightweight pair of Florsheim dress black shoes and wear a pair of Florsheim Kore walking shoes. This time I am trying to travel with just one pair.

Obviously I'd prefer three inch stilettos :p, but my new black Florsheim Kore Braydon walking shoes seem too good to be true. They are very comfortable and I'll get away with them in a formal business environment......whatever that is.

I have never done a trip with only one pair of shoes so I'm a little nervous!! I'd be interested in what some of you other carry on types do about shoes.

Have you traveled with these before, most mens dress shoes have a substantial metal strip reinforcing the sole that dislikes security points, I usually road test a new pair prior to a trip involving many security points as I hate the hassle of taking them off.

Haven't done that for 196 flights, or just over two years, and no plans to start now. The very thought makes me dizzy!! :p

I haven't but they are exactly the same sole as the Florshiem Kore Walking shoes, only the upper part is different. They are basically a "runner" made to look like a black "office style" shoe.

Strangely shoes are one item, well two if we are going to be pedantic, that I have never had an issue with at security. I have always opted for Florsheim, M&S, or Rockport rubber soles. (Misspent career on trade show stands taught me about soft springy soles!!)

For me it depends on where I am travelling and what I will be wearing. If I am going to be in suit/tie (jacket independent) then I will pack my Church's Oxfords. This tends to go in the outside pouch of the trifold suit bag. Top to toe (so to speak) they neatly take up that space.

As an FYI I wear these pretty much every day for work and domestic flights and have never set off the WTMD wearing them.

For the flight I will wear either my deck shoes (similar to the shoes posted by MunitalP or a similar pair of semi casual shoes - essentially something that can be worn in the evenings with chinos/polo shirt. These also will be the shoes I wear if I am not required to wear a shirt/tie at the destination - in that case then I take only one pair of shoes. This is harder on three week trips as I prefer to alternate shoes daily (between a pair of Cheany's Oxfords and Church's Oxfords) to increase their lifespan.

Having size 10 - 11 feet shoes are a nighmare in terms of weight and packing.

+1 for Hush Puppies, currently wearing Hush Puppies Mission | Mens - Dress- which don't set off the scanners here in Moresby (but then again, neither do can's of pepper spray, or airguns - lol :) )

Aside from that, they have lasted a year, get beaten to death here in the tropics and survive the cold in NZ. Lots of toe wriggle room, and slip on and off with no effort. They are pretty good breathers too - so great for hot feet.

And not that long ago hard to source in various parts of Asia when it comes to dress shoes! Was on a break when I got notice of an urgent meeting in Perth, did not pack business wear so I went shopping, it was only on descent into Perth wearing my new shoes the next morning ready for a meeting off the plane I noticed my black pair of shoes were not a pair at all, but two similar shoe designs .

Several years ago I met the guy who was apparently responsible for bringing crocs to Australia. I tried to have him arrested for crimes against style ;)

Oi watch it - I wear Crocs for casual wear all the time - but not the ones you are probably picturing...

Crocs I have these in grey
Crocs and these in red, black and goldy brown

:)

Shoes take up so much luggage space, but if I'm going anywhere for more than a week, Florsheim dress shoes, Florsheim suede casuals and Asics Kyaimo (sp?), plus leather sandals in summer.

Oh how I wish my feet were that small.

Mind you, having large feet reduces the number of options I have to choose from!

I'm honestly surprised that TonyHancock worries about shoes, don't the locals just carry/porter him about with his DYKWIA status?
