Shoes for Travel

I cringe when I hear that name.. & all who suffered under that family's regime. :evil:

The shoe collection should have been auctioned to the public.. not left to rot away.

Another vote here for taking only the pair of shoes I am wearing: black leather Ecco's (lace-ups). Have done 6 weeks away with only them, with a few shoeshine cloths and gizmos from hotels in my cabin bags to keep them looking good for business wear. Am sad to say I left the possibility of stilettos behind many years ago, but I really don't miss them. As I generally am wearing black trousers, no one would notice if I have the same shoes every day. When I go to the tropics, I have been known to take thongs (of the shoe not the underwear species!) for to and from hotel pool, mouldy shower recesses etc. As a girl, I think pink ballet flats sound like a lovely lightweight addition to my carry-on, though I generally don't take any; but I see them as a potential enhancement to Tony Hancock's DYKWIA recognition factor. Although I am sure the 3 inch stilettos would attract even more attention for him!

And not that long ago hard to source in various parts of Asia when it comes to dress shoes! Was on a break when I got notice of an urgent meeting in Perth, did not pack business wear so I went shopping, it was only on descent into Perth wearing my new shoes the next morning ready for a meeting off the plane I noticed my black pair of shoes were not a pair at all, but two similar shoe designs .

I can beat that - a couple of years ago I travelled to the US/Canada for two weeks. Decided not to put any shoes in my carry on but to wear my black business shoes and make do with them in the evening. Early morning flight Per to Syd (about 5:30 am from memory) so I decided to do the decent thing and got dressed in semi darkness so as not to wake Mrs Per_Travels. It was only when I got to the airport that I realised that, although both shoes were the same style, one was black and the other brown .

I have florshiem Roo leather light weight shoes. No idea of the model. Never had problems with security.

I used to pack sandals and hiking boots and runners and dress shoes. Nowadays I don't bother with anything more than the comfortable Rivers slip-ons I wear on the plane. The Flounge is probably the fanciest place I go to on my travels, and so long as I don't get kicked out there, all's good.

As the owner of two size 14 feet, carry on only vs shoe options is problematic.

Typically ends up carry on only, with two pairs, typically one "black" and one "brown", "chunkiest" pair worn, other pair packed, stuffed with undergarments, socks etc to best use the cavernous space. If leisure travel, substitute one pair for a pair of sneakers and/or buy a pair whilst away.

Black RM Williams boots for most work trips.

Fine with business or casual attire, but a bit touchy with the WTMD.

Don't give much arch support though when using the treadmill

Obviously I'd prefer three inch stilettos , but my new black Florsheim Kore Braydon walking shoes seem too good to be true. They are very comfortable and I'll get away with them in a formal business environment......whatever that is.

My husband sends his thanks. I sent him this thread to read because he's always looking for comfortable black shoes to wear for work. He ordered these online, got them yesterday, wore them today and says they are the most comfy shoes he's ever had for work.

The crocs that are available in the USA eg through Amazon, don't look like the ugly clog croc we see here. You wouldn't even know them as crocs and they are amazing to walk in.

Yep, the bigger the shoe - the bigger amount of stuff you can put inside them ...

Another vote for the 'stealth croc' - I have a pair that are ballet flat style, but suede effect on the outside.. oh so comfy for long walks, gigs where one has to stand up, shopping etc., and excellent for the tropics because they can be hosed off! Can't beat the practicality there. I've gotten into heaps of bars and clubs with these on.

In winter with carry on I go for knee-length suede boots in a light colour.. grey or tan. I wear these on the plane. Practical for just about everything, and cover compression socks very well
In summer, I've got a pair of strappy stiletto gold & nude sandals I've worn a few times, because they are light and go with just about anything, but alas, they set off the detectors every time. Once wore them on a PER-SYD-AKL-MEL long weekend.. had female airport security staff at PER and SYD ask me where I had bought them =)

Yep - crocs for me. They make 'Stealth Crocs' for men as well, although I have always referred to them as my 'dress Crocs'.
