Hi Andye, I didn't want to take a chance on it as most "older" credit cards still allocate payments to lower interest balance transfers first then to higher interest purchases so felt it might be a zero sum gain so just avoided it given I had so many others.might try to consolidate them down to a smaller number over the next year but maybe use supplementary cards more intensively next year.

Makes sense. The old 'pay the lowest interest off first' was a big rort by the banks

Call Amex and them to change the way payments are allocated to your credit card.
