Short trip to NYC flying EK & SQ F

Last flight of this crazy short trip:
SQ227 B777 SIN-MEL 7h 25m

Spent last few hours in TPR, mostly eating and drinking. Service was phenomenal, there were more waiters than guests and my glass was never empty.
Now going to board an evening flight with full dinner service, I should probably skip the meal and go sleep but let's not kid ourselves, there's no chance I'm skipping F dinner service :D

SQ B777 has two rows of F in 1-2-1 config. I'm not aware of a way to know before boarding if it's going to be old or new F product so all I could to is hope for the best and...Bingo! Refurbished F seats, happy days :)

The suite looks so much better than old version and seats are more comfortable as well. SQ did well here.

NC Bose headphones in mint condition.

Remember the A380 tiny TV screen and dated remote? Now that's proper remote and TV screen.

Appetiser - Malossol caviar.

Between EK and SQ flights done the in the last 8 days I had no less than 10 portions of caviar onboard :D

Soup - Cauliflower cream.

Salad - Butter lettuce heart (whatever that means).

01478652265.jpg

Main - Book the Cook - Indian Curry Patta Lobster.

Different way to cook lobster than on most airlines. While I prefer the traditional way this dish was not bad. After eating lobster in NYC then two portions on the previous flight and two more in the lounge earlier today think I had enough lobster for the whole year!

Dessert - Frangipani Tart.

My +1 favourite SQ dessert, tastes as good as it looks.

I have a 777 from SYD next week, so hopefully your luck will rub off.

Thanks for all the photos!

(Butter lettuce is a variety of lettuce, so the salad would have been the inner leaves or 'heart' of the lettuce. Although your pic looks like iceberg.)

There are no overhead bins and F cabin was full on this flight (two rows 1-2-1 config) so the crew stored my extra luggage in one of the front galley cabins.
PJs, slippers and amenity kits were given before departure. I've asked to change my men's kit to women's. Normally when I ask that, on most airlines they would give an additional kit, especially in F but seems like SQ are quite uptight about their amenities and the FA took mine before doing the swap.

After dinner I asked for glass of cognac digestif before going to sleep. SQ CSM didn't just bring one glass but two with different types of cognac plus two different types of chocolates to match. This is just a perfect example of what SQ service is all about, going above and beyond to give pax the best inflight experience.

About five hours left into the flight and I was the only one still awake. The bed had good padding and was comfortable but not the most comfortable F bed out there.

Asked not to be woken for breakfast. Got up about 45 min before landing not hungry at all so only had some fruits and muesli.

View of sunrise above MEL, good to return home.

That's it, this short trip came to an end. It was lots of fun doing those crazy long haul routes. Took bit long to finish this TR but was busy at work since coming back.

Already can't wait for the next big holiday...

Always a pleasure reading your trip report. Thanks for sharing. My trip is starting in a 7 days and you've reviewed all the flights on my list

Super TR Boomy! Green with envy!

Choosing between a 2006 Dom and a Krug NV...hmmm, Dom I think.

(but I just don't get caviar? I read the menu and everything is delicious, except caviar..... dare i say it, yuck!)

Actually I prefer Krug but +1 prefers Dom as it's more light and bubbly. But no doubt both are outstanding.

Regarding caviar, it's a matter of personal taste. Some like it, others hate it. I love it but not so much to pay crazy prices on the ground, happy to enjoy it in the air.

Only just read your TR now boomy and I must say I enjoyed every post. Thank you for the time you have taken.
I'm even more excited now about our trip (SQ Suites) next year.
Never having had caviar I must give it a go, all I need are some lessons on how to eat it , all those components on the plate.

I eat the caviar with the little spoon and don't waste tummy space on all those other accoutrements. Too much other good stuff to eat. I ask if there is 2nds too. ;)

My first caviar was on EK. There is a lemon wrapped in muslin. Apparently you squeeze the lemon through the muslin to avoid pulp and pips. Not me. I unwrapped the lemon. :o.

When I was new to caviar I used to have it with all the extras they offer. With time I learned to enjoy the good quality caviar (that is usually served in F) on it's own, although if you plan to do TR it looks better in the photo with all the extras :)
