Short trip to NYC flying EK & SQ F

Interested in history but with only 5 days to spare and traveling with first timer there was no time to do everything. Tried balance between sightseeing and talking long walks just enjoying the vibes on the city.
you've done a lot more than we've done in two visits :)

remember i had this discussion with cruiser in the SQ thread - flew the same route in March and pushed for an extra, which appeared based on the 'extraordinary' request. "we don't usually do this" etc. I'm not necessarily against it - but a quick word when handing them out in JFK would surely save the FRA crew from some awkward conversations, particularly when FRA departing passengers are receiving them around you.

It's no big deal, anyway I'm not using any amenity kits and give them all away as gifts to family and friends but it seemed odd especially compared to how overly generous EK were with their amenities.

did you check out the funky sculptures in air canada lounge in FRA or stay put in LH?

Didn't go there this time but been to AC lounge before. Good place to spend long layover as it's usually more quiet than LH lounges. Decor is nice and the private TV rooms are good place to relax.

Six course Lunch menu Frankfurt to Singapore.

Delectables (interesting description).

01478316458.jpg

Canapé - Singapore chicken and lamb satay.

01478316592.jpg

Appetiser - Malossol Caviar.

01478316690.jpg

Second appetiser - Warn crusted scallop.

01478316775.jpg

Pumpkin soup.

01478316911.jpg

Love the stylish SQ cutlery, looks good and comfortable to hold and use, unlike some other airlines like QF which use picnic cutlery in first class.

01478317144.jpg

Main (Book the Cook) - Boston Lobster Thermidor.

01478317253.jpg

Dessert - Amaretto Bonet with almond ice cream.

Another great meal, everything was perfect. Was always offered the next dish as soon as finished previous one and wine glass was constantly refilled.

SQ are a bit stingy with Amenity kits. As if in F it would add much to cost given so few passengers.

This time we were total of 6 pax in F, 1A/F, 2A/F and us. We were the only couple traveling together and priority to use the double beds in vacant 2C/D suite.

While beds look great and the concept is brilliant, I didn't find them as comfortable as JL or QF beds but nevertheless slept about 5 hours.
Got up and went to the galley, chatted a bit with the CSM and he offered me a tour around, starting upstairs in J and going back via Y downstairs.

Back to F cabin and +1 still sleeping in 2C/D so went to our seats in 3C/D to watch movie and start another meal. No pax were sitting in rows 3 & 4 and at that moment I felt like we are traveling on private plane.

Midnight snack, SQ style ;)

Before landing in SIN we had 5 course breakfast.
I'm not usually fan of breakfast on planes but this was not an ordinary meal but true first class breakfast!

Starting with fruits.

01478341438.jpg

Moving on to Bircher muesli.

01478341579.jpg

Then some caviar, because I asked nicely :)

01478341673.jpg

Wonton soup.

Breakfast of champions :D
If you care about your weight don't fly SQ F! :p

Landed in SIN early in the morning, breezed through security and immigration. Took short taxi ride to Conrad and first thing after check in jumped into the pool.

Later took MRT to Marina Bay and went for a stroll in the gardens.

Lucky it wasn't too hot and humid outside.

On the way back to MRT had a walk inside MBS shopping centre to cool down from the walk outside.

Next stop was China Town, lunch at one Michelin starred Liao Fan hawker stall. They got famous for their Cantonese style soya sauce chicken & BBQ pork.

01478408206.jpg

Very popular place, partly because it's so cheap and affordable so many locals and tourists are queuing up.

Went back to the hotel for afternoon drinks in the lounge and later back out for a walk in the esplanade.

Pre-booked dinner at Jumbo seafood in Clark Quay.
Each visit to SIN we go there to eat their Chilli Crab.

Back to esplanade enjoying the laser show from MBS.

Early the next day my +1 took Uber to catch her SQ flight to ICN while I got to sleep late :)
An evening departure to MEL meant I had a good half day to catch up with work I've neglected recently.

My flight was scheduled to depart at 21:15. I left the hotel around 16:30 to arrive early, do some DF shopping and explore the SQ lounges.
Told my Uber driver to drop me at SQ first class terminal. He said no problem but managed to miss it and had to circle the terminal to return. He said in many trips to T3 he never dropped anyone there. I guess most people who fly F don't use UberX :D

First class check in terminal was impressive. Someone waits outside to assist with luggage and check in is done sitting down in comfortable environment.

In addition to printing the BP F pax also receive golden-coloured invitation to TPR, nice touch!

From F check in someone escort pax to private security gate through to side entrance to DF area.
The Private Room must me the most hard to find lounge in SIN. There are no signs, first one must enter the SK lounge, then go through the F lounge and then at the end there is an unmarked entrance to TPR. Lucky I had someone escorting me once presenting my invitation at the SK desk.

The low key entrance.

The lounge is not big but looks luxurious.

01478506057.jpg

01478506076.jpg

It has an exclusive 'private club' feel atmosphere.

Next we walked via Little Italy to SoHo, checked out some galleries but mainly did shopping. Some interesting local designer shops in that area.
We had dinner at Balthazar restaurant.

Stylish French bistro but atmosphere was casual enough to feel comfortable walking in with normal clothes and shopping bags.

Best thing about eating in French restaurant in NYC is that not only the food is great but also the service!

Ah that all looks familiar - enjoyed my meal there
