Hi Myrna,
Please do provide feedback.
I’ll PM you with some details so we can look into it.

Hi Red Roo

Thanks for your post. After a long thought, I decided to take your advice and so I have followed the link in your PM and provided the feedback to Qantas. As some members on this forum said if we don't tell QF, then how will it know whether the services offered are of a consistent quality for improvement.

Thanks to everyone for your views as well - all read with much interest and appreciation.

PS - I have booked another trip back to LHR to help hubby to move into rental accommodation. And, he is flying home for Christmas. And, I am heading back to join him early next year. So, QF has done very well out of us this year.

I've recently completed a DONE4 and my experience was that priority tags put on by AA, BA, IB and CX invariably meant bags were very close to first out :D.

My consistent experience with QF, both Dom and Int, is that I'd prefer no priority tag as it mostly seems to mean close to last out . Wrting in would be futile IMO.

Your DONE4 clearly didn't include any short haul BA flights. BA stopped priority baggage on these routes about the same time as they moved into T5, un-advertised of course. Outbound they never put priority tags on short haul, and in-bound most ports will, but it means nothing at Heathrow.

Long haul never had an issue with BA, likewise never had much of an issue with Qantas either, except for Canberra check-in staff insiting on putting business class tags (for domestic to international flights) even though I am platinum, saying first doesn't exist out of Canberra. Whilst this is true, business doesn't exist on most Canberra-Sydney flights either so there goes that theory.

OT but worth a note.

On Oct 31st I flew from CBR-MEL on DJ.

At check-in I was hit with what sounded like an over ambitious claim. I was advised that our 'Priority' bags would be waiting for us upon reaching the carousal.

On arrival at the baggage claim area there were people congregating around a baggage carousal with bags already appearing. I was then amazed to see a second, stationary carousal that already had our waiting bags on it.

The speed that the bags arrived and were personalised was nothing short of amazing and reinforced the ‘impressive’ claim at check-in.

Nice one DJ.

Actually I WOULD complain to QF over this. I think we should ALL complain about this. This is a published benefit that QF are not providing and they should do something about it. If no-one complains then how do they know something is wrong?

I agree with you on this except that I am a bit over fighting/arguing with Qantas when they promise the world, and deliver very little. Priority luggage is non existent, lounge wifi is barely functional and priority boarding is patently lacking. I am truly amazed at how little grasp Qantas has over its operations and its failure to provide the published benefits. You can complain all you like, but it will fall on deaf ears. I find it impossible that the OP is the first person to experience and/or complain about this, yet nothing has or will change, because IMO, Qantas dont give a $hit. If they did, they'd listen to their customers and correct the significant shortcomings immediately.

If you do waste the time, all you'll get back is a pre-formatted "we are sorry for not having met your expectations" letter that will in all honesty frustrate you even further, due to its lack of sincerity, but good luck with whatever you decide.

IF Qantas advertise the benefit, I expect it to be provided.

As no F is available ex CBR, id suspect that no F tags are made available meaning if they dont have them, they cant provide them. Conversely, J is available ex CBR to MEL, BNE, ADL, PER and SYD so J class tags ought to be abundant.

Interestingly flying ex SYD on CX today with no F on board and flying J as an OWE I got F tags...

Many times PER-SIN I have had F tags on my bags. No QF F in sight ex PER.

Reading into one of the other posts. QF provide baggage services to NZ in MEL(?). Does NZ provide priority baggage, and how does it perform? The same goes for any airline offering priority baggage and use QF to provide the baggage services

Firstly, it was a mere suggestion as to the reason why F tags may not be available ex CBR and should not be taken as gospel. Secondly, CX (and QF) do offer F ex SYD and SYD is an international port and one that has significant F traffic, unlike CBR.

Many times PER-SIN I have had F tags on my bags. No QF F in sight ex PER.

Could it be that PER is an international port and CBR is not?? Again, it was just a suggestion.

One thing I have learnt however, is that no matter what the rules, policies and procedures are, Qantas and their front line staff will do whatever they want, when they want and how they want. There is absolutely no consistency across the network, but you can bet your bottom dollar that if you expect something, chances are you wont get it and when you dont expect it, you will.

I fly J with QF and usually my luggage is among the first to come out. It's unusual to have to wait.

My "best" experience was flying (paid) business class from Cairns to Canberra (via Syd ) July 2010 and having my bags come out very near the end. Someone had very neatly ripped off the priority tags on both bags.... I've actually still got the baggage tags, as I was so cranky I was going to write and complain, but life is too busy......

They have them as when pushed they will put them on, they just don't like (or think) to without being pushed.

Have had first class tags put on a couple of times in CBR when connecting to an international flight. Most recently in January this year.

Just to update.

I flew back to LHR (again on direct QF31 in cattle class - however, I was able to request bassinet row 52 in the middle as there was no baby on board on some sectors, to get a bit more leg room but could not lie down across the seats because the 2 aisle seats had fixed arm rests) for a few weeks to help hubby moving in the rental house. I got through UK immigration very quickly and when I got down to the bag carousel, lo & behold, my 2 bags were there :D - Needless to say I was more than happy as hubby was waiting outside to help me with taking one of suitcases back to the serviced apartment before going to work that morning.

When I got back to SYD, again I got through immigration in no time and only had to wait for less than 5 mins for my 2 bags to reappear. So, I guess, priority bags do work sometimes? Thank you QF for delivering!

It should not matter whether there is F out of that port or not, your bags should be tagged for the highest class of service on your journey. BNE Domestic have the yellow First tags so CBR should. The altea system will prompt the checkin agent "attach First tag" so if CBR are not doing it they are not following the system.

One thing the system does not seem to do is print "First" on thermal tags, it can only do the "Priority" dot or "Business" square symbols.

It's totally random in my experience. Irrespective of tag type, ticket class, time of day, phase of the moon or the price of lemons in India, sometimes my bag comes out near the start, sometimes it comes out near the end. It doesn't particularly bother me, life's too short :)

Priority tagging means nothing...

I am a plat and even with priorty tags still don't get my bag any quicker than anyone else...

Exactly. My last QF flight (SYD-SIN QF31) where I had yellow First, QF Platinum tags and AFF tags ....... my bag didn't even make it onto the plane  Ironically, it was expedited to me and made it onto a SQ flight in the end

After gone through immigration in less than 5 mins, I waited at the luggage carousel for 45 mins - my suitcase was no where to be seen. Finally it was one of the few last ones to emerge. After long flights between LHR and SYD, I was tired and very upset that I had to wait so long for my suitcase (having a Business tag on it). I don't know if I should complain to Qantas about this - what is the point of earning status and having the luggage came out last? However, when I mentioned this to my sister (who is with another airline ff). She said it happened to her once in America, she took an empty suitcase back on one of her flights, and even though she has the equivalent gold status (like mine with QFF) she waited over an hour for her suitcase - a security person brought it out and gave it to her! She thought that custom / security people must become suspicious of an empty suitcase and checked it out thoroughly.

Has this happened to anyone? Just curious! And, should I write a complain letter to Qantas? Interested in your views, any views!

I've never had my bag come out quickly ever, whether its priority or business tag or both...... so i never developed the expectation :p
