The best airlines I found, when travelling on business class tickets gold members, was the One World alliance airlines in South America, even when travelling economy (one class plane) they would have the bags off the carousel waiting for you to pick and also appeared to be "guarded" by airline staff, BUT on QF and BA quite often amongst the last off, all ones had priority tags on

I put AA to the test recently in the US.

LAX/LAS - First Class:
Our bags had the bright orange AA Priority tags on them however whY tranship bags from AA813 ex AUS via LAX to LAS came off first following by some normal whY bags LAX/LAS then priority bags started to make an appearance after that.

LAS/xDFW/xMIA/SJU - First/First/Business:
Bags did not make the flight & still hadn't arrived when our cruise ship sailed the next evening. Bags caught up with us 48 hours later at our first cruise port of St Croix. There were at least 2 other pax whose bags were also tagged Priority that didn't arrive & about 16 pax all up missing bags.

SJU/SDQ - Economy:
By the time we had cleared customs & made our way through to the baggage claim area our bags were already on the carousel. Bags were not tagged priority as all whY config & both of us ff NB.

SDQ/xMIA/DFW - Business/First:
Due to clearing customs in MIA, by the time we got to the baggage area our bags were already on the carousel. In DFW much the same as LAS ie whY tranship bags from other flights came out first then some rush bags followed by a few priority bags including one of ours then other whY bags then more priority bags including our second one.

DFW/HNL - First:
Not much of a wait at all. Both our bags again had priority tags on them & came out reasonably close together.

As we'd already experienced our bags going missing we were happy just to have them arrive on the same flight as us but I would say the AA experience is pretty much a carbon copy of what others have been saying about QF on this thread.

IMHO when airlines skimp on the amount of baggage handlers they allocate to each flight ie not have enough of them, it does not allow them to deliver a priority service their customers expect.

I think you've hit the nail on the head. IME, QF in MEL is horribly understaffed and it irks me no end waiting 45 minutes before asking baggage services what the frig is going on, only to be told the QF baggage handlers are busy clearing baggage from a jetstar flight!!

Priority tagging means nothing...

I am a plat and even with priorty tags still don't get my bag any quicker than anyone else...

priority tags can be a real curse. I know a few FF Pax that ask not to be tagged, they reckon thats quicker!

Qtags can be a real curse. I know a few FF pax that ask for paper tags, not because it's quicker but to ensure their bag actually makes the flight!

I don't trust Qtags...

The second time I used mine they miss placed my bag.

Have to agree with most that priority luggage tends to be inconsistent.

I have always provided feedback on luggage issues including delayed luggage. Sure it sounds like whinging but if Qantas are not aware what is happening then they will not think anything needs fixing.

You can tell them 'till your blue in the face, but the fact is they simply DONT care! If they did, they'd listen and fix the problems that are brought to their attention repeatedly.
