We depart next wednesday on our OW classic award. First transit is through Hong Kong. Not really anything we can do about it at this short time.

We have a OW classic booked for July next year and pretty much no alternatives available. I’m not looking to change just yet. :p

I 've got the popcorn out and just watching how all this will play out.

Also departing next Wednesday to LGW via HKG. Fingers crossed we don't have to change plans

Hi vlocity - I will be departing HKG in 1 week (next Monday) and am wondering if my normal way of checking in/going to airport will work. I have a 5pm flight to PEK and typically, I check out of my hotel around 8am and check in at the airport train station - drop my bags, get my boarding pass. I then do my day of meetings and get on to the train without stopping as I have my boarding pass and my luggage was checked in the morning. I was planning on getting on the train around 2pm which is earlier than I normally would - but I'm wondering if this will work. Will they check me in so early like I typically do? Is there something I'm missing re: timing? Thanks
Hi there JB, as stated by another member you'll have no problems at all with your way of checking in and travelling. You'll possess your boarding pass before you get to the terminal which is the main sticking point at the moment. Happy travels :)

I would encourage everyone to visit HK and Taiwan at the moment to support the peace-loving people there. Also you won't have to put up with obnoxious Chinese tourists cutting queues and overcrowding places, or defecating on the street etc.

So the Eaton (I've stayed there before) prices are half what they were a week ago, and they are offering free cancellation up until the day before. At $120 a night it's almost a throw away if things go pear shaped.

Off to HKG tomorrow. Wish me luck - if the airport and airport train are fine then I will be fine (oh, and my CX flights of course) as my 24 hour stay is all in the ICC building in Kowloon where the train station is as office and hotel are in ICC too. Fingers crossed for an uneventful trip.

Is the Eaton any good now? It looks like it may have been refurbished.

I have not stayed there for >5 years now, but with current rates at AUD90/night fully refundable, it may be worth another try...

Oh you are a prize specimen aren’t you? 👎
Some will take any opportunity to reveal what an obnoxious xenophobic bigot they are. Personally was trying to ignore this comment but tend to agree with the "The standard you walk past is the standard you accept" quote from David Hurley so good on you for speaking up.

When I went to China recently I was expecting some bad behaviour based on some of the quotes on this forum but was totally surprised, the air was clean, the place was amazingly quiet (all those electric cars), the cleanliness was amazing and the people were lovely. And if we are to be totally objective, Australians cant really be too high and mighty if we are talking about people being obnoxious in foreign countries, our record isn't that great either.

Last time I stayed there it was looking pretty good (although that was a few years ago now). Beds are perhaps a little more firm than I would like, but it's a decent price, decent location. However I'll report back here what it's like now in a couple of weeks.

Having dinner there at their Michelin starred restaurant Hat Tung Heen next week which is reportedly very good

Am now in HKG. CX flight left on time/arrived early. Airport was the emptiest I have ever seen it - got through very quickly and it was very much "BAU" with a bit more security at the last exit point . Am not venturing out of the building that houses my company's HKG office - my hotel is in this building and the Kowloon airport train stop is in this building. Have already checked in for tonight's flight to PEK - and that was BAU as well. So from an airport travel perspective - no concerns at all.

Transited through at 11:30pm last night was extremely busy airside.

I came through at 3pm in the afternoon - was quiet. Interesting. The building I'm in (which houses a huge shopping complex, of course) seemed to be normal busy for a Sunday once I arrived - but I did find the airport very quiet. No queue at immigration for visitors - between deplaning (and getting checked luggage) to train took a total of 30 minutes at most.

Thanks for the update. We will be transitting on Wednesday night. We have 6 hours transit, but I will not be going landside.
Just going to stay in the lounge.
