Sigh - might need my first SC run ... maybe

So ... through a combination of our company's travel policy now requiring discounted non-flexible bookings by default (bad), and our first baby being due in February (very exciting! - but hence less travel for a while), it looks like I'm going to fall 80SCs short of requalifying for WP at the end of March. Last qual year I just edged in 2400SCs with the same flight patterns (but also one work trip to SLC). Earning 40SCs for each WGA-SYD-BNE-SYD-WGA commute instead of 80SCs is painful :(

I've been WP for the last 4 or 5 years, so I guess there's a reasonable chance I'll be comped, but I'm unsure when that would become evident? Otherwise I may have to plan in a quick SC run in March. Probably a BNE-SYD-BNE JASA or something equally boring.

For those who have been comped in the past - when has that happened?

Cheers,
Mat.

Often happens 6-8wks out. YMMV.
At 4-5yrs with 2400 last year you should have a good chance.

Otherwise a few cancellable JASAs !!

For those who have been comped in the past - when has that happened?

This year was about three weeks out. Although I did subsequently earn the required SC prior to to my renewal date.

I cannot find the e-mail, but I was granted a 'comp' requal to WP earlier this year (after being WP for only 22 months), but managed to attain it under my own steam anyway. From memory it happened 1 to 2 months out.

For the past few years it has been the 6 - 8 weeks as mentioned for renewal packs/comps to occur.

However more recently, it seems they are now doing so early in the expiry month.

I did not receive my new WP card until abut three weeks before expiry recently.

In previous years it had been mid September (Oct 31 expiry).
Posted on a wing and a prayer ...

If I was only 80 SCs short I wouldn't risk it personally, it's just a JASA MEL/SYD return or equivalent.

I'll be 30 points short maintaining Virgin Gold, and with no more company flights, I'm not going to risk it, so I've booked a MEL-OOL return flight in February. I'll just have enough time to check out a couple of Coolangatta pubs. ;)

I'd say don't bother to risk it, spend the 32,000 + $200 or whatever it is and retain WP. There's no guarantee they'll comp you. Although after those travel patterns, you'd hope they would!
