SIN wins Skytrax best airport award

I really like SIN, HKG is second for me. Now why can't SYD be like this (yes I already know the answer ...)?

Even Skytrax gets SIN right. Great for shoppers, great for families (with cinemas, gardens, slides, etc) ......

Looking forward to transit in SIN a few times end of this year.

I'm a big fan of gate security. Wait times are always minimal and I find the whole airport experience better because of it.

While wait times are low.. it's the wait time in the pen that grates me - versus a nice lounge.

Most SIN gates would be staffed with 4 security people and 2 scanners for about an hour per flight.
SYD probably has 5-6x that for the entire international airport.
I have no doubt SIN will have more than enough scanners and staff at T4

It depends on the airline here. If it is SQ their gates close exactly 10 mins before departure. It's very easy to stay in the lounge until T-20 and head to the gate and pass through security without queuing and board the plane straight away. Done it many times. Then TG makes announcement at the start of boarding from their lounge (as does dnata lounge for GA and QR). Harder when not familiar with airline procedures.

On the TG lounge - often I arrive at the lounge as people are beginning to leave. And also several times I've been left as the only person in the lounge (and other times one of only 2 or 3) - but the attendant comes round to tell pax when boarding starts - which is about the time to head to gate. Works well. (First time i was only person remaining in lounge I asked her if boarding has started - and she said "oh no, I'll tell you when it does" - as she did almost 10 mins later and I arrived to board plane just as they were starting to board J class and status pax - perfect!)

My perceived confidence in SIN security procedures and competent response is probably higher than any other airport I've been through. I don't know whether SIN has been tested in a serious situation

They appear to take their simulation seriously ...

Video: Singapore Changi Airport Has A Simulated Terrorist Attack - One Mile at a Time

This was called Exercise Northstar, was led by the Singapore Police Force, and was the 10th such exercise involving more than 650 personnel from the Singapore Civil Defense Force, Singapore Armed Forces, and other agencies.

This simulation included a few different exercises:

* Two masked gunmen stormed the Changi Airport MRT station and fired throughout the platform
* A suicide bomber detonated his vest in the departures area, causing a loud blast
* In the gate area there was a bag with an explosive device in it

In attendance for the event was the prime minister, deputy prime minister, home affairs minister, defense minister, and minister of education. The next phase of the exercise will be held on October 28.

Apparently there were signs posted all over the airport indicating that this exercise was happening, and it’s clear that areas were roped off. However, I have to assume that some people heard the sounds and were caught off guard, not knowing what was going on. This must have been scary for those people.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a video before of such a “realistic” simulation. In particular, I can’t help but feel like they’re really going all in with the acting/theatrics of it all, which I haven’t seen in similar simulations in the past.

Other airports such as ICN are very good to verging on excellent, but SIN has to be the best airport in the world.

As others have mentioned the only annoyance is the separate gate lounges for each flight and the complexity this creates if one has to go to the toilet after having been security screened.

SIN would be way ahead of Australian airports in security.
