Hi All. First post in a long time. I am about to take my first international flight in two and a half years. I am coming home to Australia from Bangkok for a visit. Flying on SQ. Paid ticket (return). What should I do with the miles I could earn? Pre-COVID I would put them on my Thai card. Help to keep my status on Thai and consolidate all my StarAlliance points in one place. But Thai is in real trouble. Not clear that having Thai miles is a good thing. But if I put the miles on SQ then I may be creating a pot of miles that I never to get to a big enough size to use. Probably nowhere near enough to get any status benefits. What do you think? Put the miles on TG? On SQ? someone else? Love to hear your ideas

Can you put it on VA? That would be best bet if fare class allows it.

Firstly, I definitely wouldn't put them on TG given the question marks over the future of the airline, and the fact they've repeatedly devalued their frequent flyer program in recent years to the point of being almost worthless.

Have you checked the fare class on Where to Credit to see what all the options are?

If you think you might be able to use the KrisFlyer miles in the next 3 years, that could be a good option. Otherwise, United MileagePlus miles have no expiry.

With a small amount of points you could put them on Aeroplan.

Aeroplan sells cheap miles (or at least they have been so far), competitively prices awards, and are easy to use. Buying miles works out at around AUD 1.5cents per mile based on previous promotions (give or take).

Lifemiles (Avianca) would allow you to have a small balance and top up any additional miles yo need for cash. But while the program has cheap awards, they can be difficult to use.

After a number of devaluations, TG miles are close to useless. SQ miles ae much more valuable but as you are based in Thailand, they may be less useful to you.

Why not get a zero-exchange-fee credit card while you are in Australia; the ones you can accumulate points and then transfer to SQ or another airline? You can use it back in Thailand and keep earning points. I think there was one that let you transfer to either SQ or TG (I am not sure if there is still such a card).

There aren't that many miles for a one way trip. I'd either keep in TG given you are already exposed, or perhaps credit to NZ. While NZ program isn't great it does have the benefit of being an airline you can fly while bubble is open, and since points are currency for fares even relatively small amounts are useful.

You could also credit ok sq and redeem for any star alliance airline , Tg included .

If TG points are next to useless, NZ points are indeed useless (they are as useful as buying toasters on QF shop; maybe not as bad, but pretty close). I am not sure why anyone would credit any point to NZ unless one is based in NZ and/or have no other option.
