So, what are you burning your AA miles on?

And what did the fuel fines add up to flying BA???

And am i correct in thinking if you come back flying QF through DXB there isn't a way you can have a long overnight transit there because neither QF 2 or 10 arrive within less than 24 hours of the onward flights? So is it possible to get a stopover there by paying a little extra to AA or will that have to wait till another trip???

Finally, if you were to fly back into SYD on F and then fly J to PER, would you be able to use the Flounge between flights, or does your next flight have to be F to get in without status???

Agree with comments earlier in the thread that it is very limiting to have AA availability (on QF, etc) show up at 330 days when they show up on QF website at 353 days... very frustrating.

However some awards seem to pop up well inside those dates

For example, original booked Mrs Paddy on CX in J Class going SYD-HKG-FRA 288 days out.

Changed to flights several days earlier on QF & BA going SYD-SIN-LHR-FRA in J/F/J just 80 days out.

You never know!

Yes. QF2 arrives in DXB at 0720, departs at 0920.
QF10 arrives in DXB at 0820, departs at 0950.
To do a stopover, you'd have to buy two separate tickets.

You can only access the F lounge prior to flights departing from the international terminal, including domestic sectors, but AFAIK there is no SYD-PER leg that departs from the SYD int terminal. So in that case (unless I am mistaken), no.

Are there any MPM restrictions using CX from Australia to USA? I imagine J & F are easier to come by than on QF?

Picked up 2 F Awards for QF1 SYD to DXB in September today for 60000 points a pop. $1500US including tax each essentially as I bought the miles. Bargain of the year...

Yes that's true however:

There was no availability, at least no where near the dates I wanted.
i only had 60000 points each to use
I wanted to avoid BA and their fuel fines
Had no desire to go to Europe...

:)

On leisure trips, a flying adventure, like AKL-BNE-SYD-MEL-SIN-KUL-BKK-HKG-PEK in J, on QF, MH, CX and KA. All for 35k points and about $100 in taxes.

Is that a trip you've done? If so, which cities do you actually stop in?

I didn't think it was possible to have that many flights.

I've done up to 6 segments before on a South Pacific to Asia 2 award. With MH now in oneworld, a few more interesting options are available, eg, KUL-HKG on the A380. I usually stop in SIN and HKG.

Interesting. When I've tried to plan something creative like that previously (like PER-MEL-SYD-AKL) I've hit issues which I think have to do with maximum permitted mileage from point A to point B. And I definitely haven't been able to stop anywhere other than the destination.

That's odd. PER-MEL-SYD-AKL is not much of a detour, I can't see why it shouldn't be allowed. Transits up to 23 hrs 59 mins are permitted.

I usually book a J flight to get me to the where AA flies to, such as PVG, Europe etc and then hop onto AA metal where I use a lot of my system wide upgrades to go from cheap Y to J, although I will going SYD-DXB in J with 45,000 AA miles a couple of times this year and use QF miles on EK flights in Y to DXB-Europe as they are relatively short.

Ditto here, but Etihad J MEL-AUH-MLE for 45,000 AA miles each way. $120 taxes in total. Includes 4x chauffer drives since its Etihad - now if only they would consider the $500 each way sea-plane from MLE to the Conrad Maldives as one of the chauffer drives! Alternatively, MEL-HKG-PEK/PVG as you had stated with CX on their new biz product. Great value :)

I have just put a SYD-NRT JL J *2 On Hold, using my 90K miles purchased last year. Looks like I need to call the Australian centre to get it ticketed .....

you may be correct but surprised if you do have to call them for ticketing, I recently went SIN-HEL with AY using AA miles in J and I simply went to the pay icon and everything went through OK, did not need to call anyone for ticketing, but then again, the first leg was with QF in J SYD-SIN so it could have been a QF code all the way which is why the all the business could be on online.

You would have to burn miles going from one zone to another and then to the USA, hardly worthwhile using points this way. If you were to go SYD-LHR it is only one award using QF or AY or BA, but if you try to go with CX all the way, it would be 2 award flights, just like SYD-LHR-LAX would be 2 award flights using BA.

JL flights have not yet been integrated into aa.com.So if you search SYD-NRT you are only given the QF option not JL.

PS.So seeing we will be getting an award BNE-NRT next year I looked at aa.com and can get 2 one way awards in J for 90000 miles.QF on the same date and same flights want mrsdrron as a WP to pay 855000 miles on 2 JASAs..

Classic award SYD-HEL in F (LHR-HEL will be in J) is 218,000 QF miles and $660 taxes, FASA
1,036,322 QF miles,
same award with AA miles is only 80,000 and $180 taxes, seems remarkable that there could be such a difference
