So... what car do you guys drive when not flying?

I have a black 2008 Calais V.

Never getting black again! When I convince myself to spend the money to start off-roading with the extended family/friends in my own car, I'll look at a LR Rangie, Disco (my parents' Disco 3 is a great vehicle) or possibly a Prado.

I had a Black Calais 07 model and loved it.

I don't go off road so it was a great car for us.

I have a black car and my next one will be black as well

Been thinking of getting rid of the Aurion and going to a Subaru Tribeca... But Also want out of my current job so the new car may have to wait :(

BR if you get a ute people will think you want to help them move house so if you do get a ute let me know and I find a sticker which will say"Yes this is my ute and NO I will not help you move house"

That's a really good idea.

I don't even help myself move to be fair!!

You must enjoy washing it!

My car gets washed about once a fortnight.

My car is in a garage every night and then at work it is undercover all day as well.

So it doesn't spend much time outside at all, just weekends really.

I have a 6 year old CR-V & Mr Katie has a 96 Mustang. His car when he lived in the US & we brought it back & converted it. He promises he will never get another sports car (& hasn't driven it since last year's floods - it was the first thing we evacuated, along with photos!!)

Katie is that the one that was a Sherpa?
One of our young ladies at work had one.
Mark Povey of Povey Petroleum had them for his Povettes (equivalent of Gold Coast meter maids but in Perth). It was hard to put a mattress in the ute bit because a mattress was a bit too big!

2007 (Mk 5) Golf R32. Lovely car, but my previous was an E39 M5 so it still feels like a significant downgrade :-(

Currently trying to resist the urge to upgrade again (E90 M3 maybe)... Working at a car finance broker makes it hard, I'm exposed to a constant flow of temptation :-)

This has to be my favourite car of all time... well this and a XJR Jag...

Definitely one of my all-time favourites too... easily the best car I've ever owned. I still miss her - selling was the right (read: sensible) thing to do, but I still regret it.

Not about me, but rather the guy that owns the company I work (let's call him Mike for the sake for the story) - thought I'd share as I found it rather entertaining:

Mike had been searching for a very specific car for quite some time - a specific model of Porsche in a specific body style and colour combination. Not easy to find, but after a few months a good one popped up at a local dealer. Mike rang the dealer, had a chat about the car, and after a bit of haggling knocked the price down from $179k to $160k. Agreed to buy it over the phone - dealer to call back the next the day when it was ready to collect.

So, a few hours later the dealer calls Mike back and says "I'm sorry, but we've made an administrative error - we can't sell you the car for $160k, if you want to buy it you need to pay $162k". Knowing this is typical dealer BS, Mike tells them to GAGF on principle and hangs up.

The dealer calls back an hour later and says they've "re-worked the numbers" and can sell him the car for the original $160k price. Mike's reply: "Sorry, I made an administrative error and can't buy the car for $160k. If you want to sell it I can only pay $158k". Picked the car up 2 hours later and paid $158k for it

I didn't need to tell my vendor GAGF as I buy his 2 year old 40,000kms Lexus as he buys another one. It keeps the cost at about half the list price for a Lexus.

It is rubbish like that, (on the dealers part) which give a lot of very honest car dealers a bad name.

If one of my staff had made that "administrative error" I would have fired them.

A lot of high net worth individuals, are very time poor, so to be stuffed around like that is just bloody annoying.

I'm pleased "Mike" stood his ground and that the dealer learned a valuable lesson.

Boss

Audi Melbourne tried to charge me LCT on a car that isn't eligible for LCT. Total purchase price was just under $75k and it's a fuel efficient vehicle. Ended up cancelling the contract and getting my deposit refunded, and going with Audi West Brisbane on a colleague's recommendation - got the exact same deal on the exact same chassis. Customer Service at Audi Melbourne backed down and grovelled but I really didn't need more drama.

It is disappointing - plenty of great car dealers out there, but enough bad ones to ensure a poor reputation for the whole industry. We suffer the same problem on our side of the industry (car finance brokers) - enough unscrupulous ones out there for all of us to get tarred with the same brush :-(

Glad to hear that you ran your dealership "the right way" Boss!

So am I - I think he would have walked completely if it weren't for the fact that it had taken him months to find this car. At least he saved an extra $2k!

I am seriously considering buying a ute.

I have absolutely no need for one.... I just think they are cool!!

Valet park this!!

Boss

But Mercedes-Benz don't make a ute

Suppose that you could buy a ML or GL and Pimp-It into a ute
