So... what car do you guys drive when not flying?

Before I was tired and old I drove an HSV Grange,
6.2 V8. Great car on the highway but diabolically
dangerous on narrow country roads. Sold it and
bought an "old man" Lexus. Most HSV models seem to
becoming collector cars but the grange version is
seems to be bottom of the list and still about what I got for it 10 years ago.

I've contacted the bloke who made the video, and will try to find the owner.

Well I heard back from him. His video was done two years ago, and sadly he didn’t keep the owners’ details. All he had was that it was an elderly couple from Chittering. That might explain its low mileage and wonderful condition....possibly a long term owner. The fact that it’s now had its plates cancelled possibly means that it’s been sold. Hopefully to a good home.

In my ongoing efforts to scare the boss, with regard to the MR2, I’ve been looking at some of the Japanese sites. Apparently we can now import cars that are 25 years old, and that’s now the age of my MR2. A couple that I’ve found look like they’ve spent their entire lives wrapped up. Mint paint, and interiors. But, you have to wonder what the mechanicals would be like on a car that has only averaged 1,000 km per year over that time frame.

Of course there is a saying about never meeting your heroes, and I expect that would apply doubly in this case.

Other than replacing seals, mechanical components (ImnsHO) are the least of the collectors worries.
Plastics are the killer ,they degrade crack and break with age no matter how they are kept.
Really old stuff, pre plastic, is arguably a more rewarding collectible to own from a maintenance perspective.

Need to fire up the scanner to snooker trtma's first wheels pic….

Just ordered a Honda CR-V VTiX. We decided we don't need 2 cars anymore so traded my Accord and her Civic for the CR-V

It's supposed to be a 2021 build and expected early Feb.

There's nothing like that new car smell :D

Just been told this car is on a ship now in MEL. Then onto SYD and finally BNE end of next week.

It looks like early Feb is going to be early Mar. :(

‘Barn find’ Porsche 356 nets $230K

Rusty 63-year-old 356A Cabriolet fetches almost as much as a new Porsche 911

Demand for rare classic cars continues to break records and now a badly neglected 1958 Porsche 356A Cabriolet that spent the past 25 years rusting under a church in Newmarket, Brisbane, has sold for $230,000.
Now Sydney-based, the rusty-but-complete Australian-delivered 356 convertible with some rare factory options almost doubled its pre-auction high-price estimate at the Shannons Summer Timed Auction that closed last night (February 23).
After 61 bids and an online duel between two determined bidders that drove its price up by $75,000 in the auction’s final hour, it went under the hammer for almost as much as a brand-new 2021 Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe ($236,300 plus on-road costs).

Was towing a horse float + horses (total tow weight 3.3T and total load for engine: 6.6T) SYD-WGA (locale not airport)
Landcruiser felt very underpowered.
No engine fault lights
I stopped couple of times to check but could not find much. Air filter good.
But I saw some rat droppings in the engine bay

As there were no faults I pressed on.
Managed to get to WGA then back to SYD.

Took it to the boys at Berrima Diesel:

How on earth did the engine make enough power to move 6.6T especially up the steep bits of the Hume Highway near Mittagong at 80kmh breathing through the proverbial straw?
Obviously the engine ECU detected low air mass, and reduced the fuel injection to compensate. Less power, but no smoke

I wonder what I could get

Who would thought that an LC200 could be mentioned in the same breath as a Phase 3 gtho and other legendary beasts.
Buying a new one and locking it up for posterity is a well known tactic these days so a few are probably headed for somewhere dark and quiet.

Well, at least it wasn't mentioned in the same breath as Jaguar E Type, or any car with real breeding.
