So... what car do you guys drive when not flying?

What are you painting.. the tonka truck ?
Is it a boulevard cruiser or a horse tow truck ?
If the latter , you could buy a few dozen rattle cans of enamel from supercheap and do it yourself.
A quality paint job is very difficult to do , expensive , and seldom done well....
Every door edge, trim panel gap etc etc.. will probably tell the tale that it has been painted...

Drop in to a local panel shop( trade not backyard) and ask to see the paint line..it is quite a process

I have a new Everest on order from last November when the new Ranger/Everest were 'revealed'. I'm second on their list.

I just went to my Ford dealer to scope the new Ranger which has just hit the deck for delivery, and ask what they know about when Everest will arrive. They are saying October for mine.

I'm sticking with the 2.0L Bi-turbo donk. The 3.0L V6 looks the goods but I seldom tow, certainly nothing large, so it would be an indulgence and a range-shortener with its greater fuel consumption. I've been happy with my existing 2.0L which I've had for 27 months, done coming up 80K clicks and it hasn't missed a beat. Overall average fuel use is 8.4L/100km.

The dealer tells me anyone ordering a V6 today (which is the only engine option for both the Sport and Platinum models) faces a wait of 12 months.

What I have noticed is that Ford has changed the wheel rim width to 7.5inch from the current model's 8inch and the tyre size on the Trend to 255/65R18 compared with 265/60R18. Narrower, higher-profile tyres seems to go against the usual modern trends.

I aim to fit AT/LT tyres but 255/65R18 is a very unusual size and not at all common - actually bordering on the non-existent it seems.

Any comments from the Brains Trust out there about:
  • Why they would change the wheel/tyre size to something (at least currently) unusual?
  • 265/65R18 seems as common as 265/60R18, so could I safely fit a 265/65R18 to a 7.5inch width rim to match the new larger diameter, albeit not the width?

A friend of mine used to have a red e-type
with a factory fitted sunroof, leather?
To him it was a car. I remember him carrying engines and gearboxes in it.
The last time I saw it, it was buried in his garage with a lot of other junk.
He sold it when he was decluttering as he was moving from Port Stephens.
Very sad I thought. The car, not the move.

I have found that 265/65R18 tyres can be fitted to 7.5inch width rims, so that's the way I'll go.

Still puzzled as to why they would reduce the rim width and increase the profile. Suggestions (guesses ) I heard was possibly for better fuel economy or turning circle. 🧐

Doesn't increased profile improve the ride quality and comfort?

I guess that's another reason - although on the two higher-end models they go standard 20x8.0inch (Sport) or 21x8.5inch (Platinum) wheels and low-profile tyres - but with a factory-option off-road pack that puts those back to the 18x7.5inch wheels with 255/65R18 AT tyres.

But I guess cosmetics is everything for the soccer mums on the school run...

Mitsubishi loses appeal in Supreme court of Vic over misleading ADR fuel consumption sticker

Lost at Vcat (3 breaches of australian consumer law
Lost at Supreme court appeal but won back 2 of the 3 breaches
Lost at Supreme court full bench appeal - as per initial Supreme Court Vic appeal

Essentially the ADR fuel consumption sticker could not be replicated.... = "misleading and deceptive conduct"

If I had a customer that disgruntled over the fuel consumption I’d just give them back their money and resell the vehicle at a loss. Hindsight is a beautiful thing but now Mitsubishi has the Vic court of appeal judgment against it

I drive a Subaru Forester 2016. Great car. No Apple car play so had to install a Sony unit after market. Coincidentally the check engine light came on this week and Subaru Docklands now trying to get it fixed for me as “goodwill” (its out of warranty). I assume because a car with under 50K km should not be leaking oil in the engine…

Would love a euro car like Mercedes or bmw but there is a lot more cost - including for the upkeep. Perhaps one day

Old Landcruiser
I think remove everything interior, doors, windows, bonnet, boot lid
Engine bay everything in situ. Maybe the front end off.
A repaint will cost about the same as the value of that car (Assuming it's not an HJ45 with 10,000 miles on it).
Good work ain't cheap and cheap work ain't good.

Drove on of these on Thursday night. Noice!

..sigh.. Swmbo has inculcated the "Volvogene"; not without reason as the org has made many long lived if boring products.
I keep harping that the company is now just another "Empire building " Chinese mfr hiding under a European cloak…and therefore not to be trusted or encouraged.
She will not upgrade for a couple of years, so there is still time..I hope...

Polestar isn’t boring. :) Lovely car in and out. Much prefer to a Tesla. Maybe Chinese MGs will turn out to be ok?
