So... what car do you guys drive when not flying?

I'm happy to let the early adopters be the guinea pigs.

In management fad talk land... (is that a thing?)

the "leading edge" of early adoption is also called the "bleeding edge" because early adopters bleed their cash... Most "new" things start out expensive and inefficient and take several iterations to reach some sort of economic mass market viability.

I like new things. :)

Like EVs or not - they are coming and the tide will not be turned back - but please keep up the contributions. I just hope I am still here in 15 years time to re-visit this thread 👍

Oh agree, it’s so funny seeing the old dinosaurs creaking on about it on socials like their opinion will have any weight at all!

One of my friends just got their hands on the Kia EV6 and it is a superb driving machine, took it for a spin the other night, amazing.

Per previous posts have been considering getting the e-XC40 which I have also test driven and it’s a lovely drive too. Shorter waiting lists.

Lotta dinos around here young feller.. better watch your back with big talk like that...
This old dinosaur is an early adopter who was embracing new technology when jake77 was a twinkle in his fathers eye…...

Friend has a Polestar 2 - nice car. Another has a Tesler model 3 - also nice but I don't like not having the spedo in front of the driver unless there's a HID which works with polarised sunglasses - whcih they don't. :(

Nice that you agree but the terminology used to describe the ‘mature’ AFF Members is totally out of line - don’t be afraid to learn some respect while you are young j7 - it’s only a matter of time and you too will be joining the club 👍

LOL. I thought the OP was being very polite about the opinions of some AFFers.. :) :) :)

LOL but you should understand the ancient dinosaurs here have opinions which have been distilled, refined and aged over centuries in some cases. These opinions are much more meaningful and robust than the opinions of those whose life experience would not even fill the heading section of a Word document page🤣

Yes I’ve seen that too, it’s in the top right of the screen.

I haven’t driven the Tesla 3 though to test visibility.

Yes I’m in agreement with you on the Polestar…!

Ummmm I never passed comment about any AFF members whatsoever… maybe you got the wrong post? I said ‘socials’…. This is not social media, this is an online forum….

I was talking about all the socials where people (older) are going off because they can’t drive non stop from Perth to Alice Springs like it was their hill to die on! (Go look up all the major car review socials if you want a giggle).

Just for clarity.

A good reasons not to be a dinosaur with technology.

Am I a dinosaur if I first learnt to drive in a 1960 Mini Minor (before I was eligible for a DL)

What, you are that old! :)

When I tried to drive a rally car competitively when I was 18, I was competing against some people that grew up on farms and had been driving since they could barely see over the steering wheel, aged 8 or there abouts, lucky them. :)

The current world rally champion, Kalle Rovanpera was even competing as a driver in rallies when he was under 10. Of course not having a license meant his co-driver drove on the public roads between stages.

It was my mums MM. The radiator would be at the side of the engine bay instead of in front. Later my dad would let me drive his Ford Escort from the gate into the garage🤣
I seem to remember the Escort as a 4 door?. I might be wrong as the Escorts of the 1970 era were mainly 2 door?

Dad started by letting me sit on his knee and steer, as I grew a bit i could eventually reach the throttle and the brake and eventually change gears.
Coming out of town one night we were sideswiped, dad went back to chat to the other car owner and I lay on the back seat and cried my little 8yo heart out. Returning to the car he was quite calm and observed that some folks are attracted to headlights approaching them.
Our car then was a 1920 something BUICK 6…
I could drive the tractor and the truck before I was twelve and it seemed impossible to have to wait until I was 18 to drive legally.
At 16 I took my motorcycle to the local police station for a licence.. Oh young so and so the sergeant remarked with a smirk.. want to be
legal now do you ? Just ride up the street and I will have it written out for you when you get back.

It was a different world…...

Both 2 and 4 door, not sure of the numbers made but there are many still running and you can buy a brand new mark 2 Escort now including shoch/horror an electric version this year.

I have not bought an EV as yet but will do so if and when THIS is marketed in Australia - I have deposit on one since they first developed a RH drive version for UK and Ford Australia tried to jump in also
