So... what car do you guys drive when not flying?

That looks quite nice inside. I'm currently driving an XC90.
It's been a great car to drive and if I could wait longer to replace it then I'd definitely look at the new model.
Two things I've noted are that although the head room is quite big in the third row, the leg room is no better than the Q7 or X5. It does have a fair amount of boot space even with the third row in use (same can't be said for Q7/X5).
The middle seat in the second row is very uncomfortable and only suitable for small kids as the floor is elevated there behind the centre console. It looks from the video as if this will continue to be the case in the new model.

It chews through tyres (I've had 4 full sets in 5 years) this could just be an SUV thing or I'm a bad driver or both :lol:

If you lived up here I'd say .. roundabouts. Terrible things!

Other than the Sahara (need a change) nothing else catches the eye.

I should say two of those sets were the cheapest brand on the market and as they say: you definitely get what you pay for :D

You clearly haven't met Princess leadfoot, then ;):p:mrgreen:. Maybe she needs to look at buying a John Deere for the thick tyres :shock::p.

Not always the case Pirelli are fantastic tyres (very grippy) but usually a very soft compound so don't last at all. On the other hand those Cooper tyres with the extra tread are as hard as nails but if you want the car to sound like s steamroller those are a good choice
 
I've got an S3 hatchback, and I previously had a VW R32. I looked at the current R, but the interior didn't do it for me. I like the understated Audi. Driven the A45 too, and whilst very quick, I wasn't a fan of the cabin or looks (though that's obviously a personal choice).

Funny enough I've got a R32 too, now it's relegated to be the runaround for the missus. Like you, the current R didn't do it for me at all but I went the other way instead of the S3. The treatment I've received from the Audi dealerships certainly played a part in my decision.

Great runabout...especially the sound.

I found the Audi dealers to be very hit and miss, but thankfully I found a couple who were decent to deal with. I tried BMW a couple of times, but no matter how much I liked some of their cars (before Bangle got hold of them) I could never come to terms with their dealers. I just hated the idea that buying a car would in any way help them.

That's what they said about the Freelander 2 as well.
We had the FL2 and had few issues. Replaced it with the Disco 4 and have had same lack of problems.

I don't use a set of tyres every 25K though. And I drive it like I stole it. Towing, dirt roads, you name it.

Sometimes the grippier, more expensive tyres don't last long. Tyres are all about compromise. Those Cooper tyres that last 80K have gotta be giving something away. Like traction.

Only 12,000!? :o I do that in a month sometimes. Although I sometimes wish I only did 10,000 a year.

A couple of years back (2013) I sold my 20yo BMW with less than 100k on the clock. It might have been immaculate with a full service history but it wasn't worth jack s.

It's coming up to its fourth birthday. Suspension compressor recently replaced under warranty would be the biggest, but I consider all suspension components, in any car, to be consumables. I'd buy another. And it's been down the Oodnadatta track.

I'm not sure why you'd put cheap tyres on any car. They are, after all, the only thing in contact with the road.

As for Coopers...I have a number of friends who have much to say about them, none of it good. I was with one (in a Landcruiser) when a tyre delaminated. Unless you feel like being a patient of one of your compatriots, I'd look elsewhere.

Personally I'd never buy anything out of the Cooper or Mickey Thompson factory. I've seen so many destroyed in similar situations.

In millions of kilometers we've never had a thing go wrong with BF Goodich tyres (owned/manufactured by Michelin), that's not to say people haven't but I've never heard anyone complain, except for the cost, which isn't even that bad.

Out of interest, jb747, what tyres are you running on the disco?

Goodyear Wranglers...which were what it was delivered with. I haven't worn any tyres out, but I've had a great run with nails. My preference when I eventually replace a full set will be for Pirellis.

Never had Pirellis myself but I have heard good things.

I do remember the BFG's getting a little bit squirrely in the wet towards the end of their lives. But I've never had better wet weather tyres to compare to.
