So... what car do you guys drive when not flying?

On a slightly related topic - what's the best way to sell a car these days? I know some just take the old car to the dealer when they buy their new car and get fleeced but after trying to sell my car for three weeks I can see why people would do it. I've sold plenty of cars in the past - from the Trading Post newspaper days to online ads to eBay and I've always sold my car within a week, usually to the first person to view it - in the case of eBay I've had people buy the car and pay a cash deposit sight unseen! (I'd never do that).

Anyway I've been on on Carsguide.com.au, Gumtree and eBay for three weeks and I just got my first inquiry last night! I've already dropped the price by $1500 (I was a bit optimistic to start with) but virtually no interest. Do people sell it on the street? Those roadside car lots don't last long before the council puts up the signs.

When new cars get cheap, second had cars become cheaper I guess. Also certain brands and body types fall out of fashion I guess.

Anyone?

Scumtree seems to attract a fair bit of (well) tyre kickers and Carsales is now a $60 proposition, kinda stuck between a rock and a hard place.

Keep dropping the price by $500 a week and it will hit the sweet spot eventually.

If someone is watching the car, and sees that, they'll be quite tempted to just wait and see how low it goes. Very few cars are so rare, or deals so good, that you can't afford to miss them.

Last time I sold a car (that way), I found the going price for the model and simply undercut it to start with. Gone in a few hours. Perhaps I could have gotten a bit more for it, but it was worth it for the speed with which it all happened.

Some buyers will also watch until you remove the advert, and contact you a couple of weeks later. By then they'll figure the ball is firmly in their court. And it will be.

Of course some cars are much harder to sell than others. It was very easy to sell a RAV, but really hard to get rid of an HSV.

There's other ways to keep an eye out for a particular car - google the make/model and rego number, it cached quite a lot of info and I've bargained like that in the past with sellers saying no it's just been listed. No, that might be the case 3 months ago. Some sellers take this approach well but not for others.

You don't strike me as a HSV sorta guy sorry JB! It'd be like taking your A380 down Chapel St on a Saturday night doing some bog laps with the doof doof blaring while spinning up your engines.
