So... what car do you guys drive when not flying?

Until it arrives I'm stuck with the CL600, with which I am very bored, because it's really a very boring car.

Seriously? You don't like the CL600? I was seriously thinking of buying one of these. I've yet to drive one I must admit, so my interest so far is only looks biased. Whats the problem? Not enough oomph? Not distinctive enough on road?

Well Straitman in a Lexus you have to make your own sounds as they are super smooth and super quiet.
Lexus is way out number one in the US as it starts with the quality build.
Have had no issues in 17 years of ownership and I waited until my heart operation in 1994 to get my first one.
You dont have to wait that long!

can a GTi be diesel?

No I'm almost positive the GTi is petrol only.

As for my wheels, an '05 Golf TDI Comfortline...looking at an upgrade later in the year, but I don't drive very much (run my businesses from home), so makes me reluctant to do so when the Golf is such a great car.

Currently driving a 95 Jeep Cherokee Sport. It is getting a little tired (the aircon is a tad temperamental) and we hope to switching shortly.

We would like to get a Volvo XC90 but it is just pricing itself out of the market slightly...

I would also like to get a Landrover Series short wheel base some time in the future as my diving car - something I can chuck the gear in and not worry about getting the leather seats wet...

My car ownership history:

72 Mini (a real mini, bumps and all).
Hyundai Excel (what was I thinking?)
74 LH Torana (best car I've ever owned)
99 HSV XU8
MY99 Impreza WRX (Living in Edinburgh, what a combination)
02 VYII SS
06 VE SS
MY09 Impreza WRX

'Heritage' or lack thereof isn't my concern. Most important thing is how a car actually feels. I am glad that Lexus and Infiniti (which is coming to Oz soon!) have done so well and have kept the traditional luxury brands honest. And Acura fills a very nice niche between budget and luxury.

I must be old, I remember when the Infiniti brand was here in the early 1990's.

It's not really something I can put my finger on, I think I've just grown tired of it. I've used a CL as my primary drive for about 8 years now. I think it's time to move on.

The issue is certainly NOT a lack of oomph - the V12 is a monster.

2010 Ford Focus (replaced a 1987 Laser)
1939 straight 8 Buick (but only moves on the end of tow rope at this time: will drive the beast one day :!: )

Black Land Rover Disco 09 model. Batesys are a one car family, looking for a scooter for Mrs batesy at the moment.

If she's looking for the wind blowing in her hair, my BMW is for sale ;)

*edit* And it's black to match the disco!
