So... what car do you guys drive when not flying?

Everyday: Mercedes-Benz E Class Cabriolet.

When towing: ML63

Special occasion: SLS AMG

In the shed: HSV GTS 40th Aniv.

On Order: RR Ghost

Excellent collection. Did you consider the Maybach (considering its also a Merc)? Personally I prefer the RR over Maybach.

Me - Porsche Boxster

For pleasure: 2009 Silver SAAB 93 Aero convertible - just love driving this car!
For city running without the worry or when needing the bootspace: 2007 Toyota Sportivo (about to be the one less car in the driveway).
For travelling to the property and back: 2001 Jeep Grande Cheroke - all the knobs and dials of the SAAB but without the European finese and sophistication.

The vulgar Maybach range is suitable only for Russian mafia-types, nouveau riche hedge-fund managers, and movie producers.

The same car as the last time this question was asked on AFF!

A rundown 1989 Holden Commodore! My dad and my brother say it is embarassing to drive it but I don't see them rushing out to buy another car. ;)

Hopefully next time this question gets asked I will have upgraded it to a later model Holden Commodore but overseas trips have first priority on leftover funds. ;)

You forgot to mention Rap Singers..... Oh.... and Lottery Winners. (in the USA)

The Maybach is far too large to drive around in day to day. IMHO.. It is only suited to be driven in!! As is the RR Phantom.

Which is why I like the Ghost.

US oil price strikes $US100 a barrel | The Australian
US oil futures touched $US100 a barrel for the first time in more than two years today, boosted by violent unrest and supply disruptions in Libya. Light, sweet crude for April delivery briefly touched $US100 a barrel exactly on the New York Mercantile Exchange. The last time the contract hit that level was October 2, 2008, as crude prices were tumbling from record highs and the economic recession began to set in.

Toyota Prius anyone?

It's been so long since I looked at the price of fuel!!

In London last week I received a reminder when I had filled my rental car up but had forgotton my wallet. This meant I counted the cash as opposed to just swiping my credit card. It was over 80GBP and that was a 4 cylinder Vauxhall Insignia!

For someone living in the UK on an average income a car must be a huge expense.

It certainly is,I spent 11 months in London in 2008 and even though I was earning over the average income running a car was not something I could easily afford, fortunately the transport system over there was good enough for me and I didn't need to drive much.

Or for just $90 more you can now get the Lexus CT200h! Very cool interior.

2011 Lexus CT 200h pricing announced for Australia | Car Advice | Reviews

Same Prius drivetrain but with all the Lexus bells and whistles. Not sure about hybrid engines in the long run though, diesels seem a better bet.

I don't like the centralised control thingy (Lexus remote touch, BMW iDrive etc) that all new cars seem to have these days...

1.8-litre petrol engine teamed with a rear-mounted electric motor provides a combined maximum output of 100kW, and the CT 200h will beat the Toyota Prius with a combined cycle fuel consumption of just 3.8 litres/100km.
That's quite impressive, that means at current fuel prices I could go from Tallangatta to Albury and return for about $5.00-which is a lot less than the $20 it costs to drive my Falcon that distance.

I had a 4 cylinder Vauxhall Insignia two weeks ago in the UK. 86GBP to fill it up. I was looking under the car to see if petrol was leaking out when I was filling it. I don't know how people on an average income can afford to run cars at all.

Nice range of cars here ;)

I'll add to that range with my current drive; a 2000 Alfa Romeo 156. Red. Factory full body kit. (a.k.a a very very very poor man's Ferrari)

Then again cars are much cheaper in the UK to begin with. Economies of scale or lack thereof makes cars in Australia 2-3x more expensive than they are.

Well Straitman in a Lexus you have to make your own sounds as they are super smooth and super quiet.
Lexus is way out number one in the US as it starts with the quality build.
Have had no issues in 17 years of ownership and I waited until my heart operation in 1994 to get my first one.
You dont have to wait that long!

Luxury EXport US

And I drive a 2.0 Golf TDI 2006

The new CT200 H will debut at the F1 as the celebrity rAce. I have heard LEXUS have really dumped some dough into this.

Looks like an interesting car as well, a luxury compact hybrid...........with that radar stuff that stops you from running into the car in front....

Was that the one on top gear a while ago? It looks insane.

Oh I love performance hatches! Miss my little baby 1series... going to replace it with a GTI shortly.

Something about the CT200H interior ....looks very busy and un-natural. Totally love the exterior though!
