So... what car do you guys drive when not flying?

I was booked for not having a motorway Carnet in Austria. I was escorted to a van which issued a printed fine and then took payment by eftpos. No evading them.

This was one of the roadside fixed cameras, so all the locals would know it, but not us tourists. Off the autobahns, speed limits change quickly, almost as bad as driving through suburban Sydney. :) One other time in Germany we were so preoccupied with getting in the correct lane at some roadworks that I missed the temporary 40kph limit, think it was about 43 or close, fine was only 30 Euro, it cost more to send the money as they would only take a bank transfer.
It's interesting that all my speeding fines in Germany (3, I think) have been in the former DDR, south of Berlin, Saxony Anhalt. A lot of the roads there are much like the old days, except they have laid new bitumen over the old cobbles, trees close the road, etc.
 
This is what I drive when not flying, a clapped out Renaul (T deliberately left off .. look closer at the photo!) Symbol. Vintage model. Dust and dirt all over the interior was an optional extra which they added for free, so that was a nice upgrade.

My 1994 1340 EVO, is quite different to the current breed, having a carburetor and no electronic management etc like new models. It's old school and apparently a lot of new(er) mechanic's have no idea about working on them. Parts too I was told could be difficult to find.
Luckily I have found someone near my home that likes the old bikes.

I guess that's their way of telling you never to buy an new bike from them.
 
I drive an almost new Kia, before i drove a 15 year old Jeep Compass which met all of my needs, until it stopped wanting to be driven in rain or humid weather. Over time I gradually transferred more and more wealth to the local mechanic as he systematically replaced all the bits with wires under the plastic covers under the bonnet, until my wife in frustration forced me to sell it. It feels cathartic telling you all this.

Our daughter now drives a new Kia too.
The 2014 Skoda was a lemon since day one. She got $1,000 at the scrap yard for it late last year.
 
With Toyota Camry Hybrids being coated with unobtainium we are test driving Kia Niro hybrids this weekend to check suitability for our work vehicles for our territory managers.

A friend now buys Hyundai vans for his service fleet, he has had Toyota's for decades… peerless quality…
 
Having purchased 3 Kia Sorento’s consecutively I very highly rate them as a value for money and quality vehicle. I have just passed my most recent sorento to eldest daughter and picked up our new Toyota Kluger Hybrid. Not so sure I got the better half of the deal, Jury is still out.
 
We will have had our Kona Electric for 4 years in April. It still feels good to not have to go to a service station. We ended up buying a cheapie air compressor though because it didn't seem ethical to just rock up to pump the tyres.

EV comparisons, has anyone done so recently. I'm starting to think about changing our 10yo BMW M1 for an EV.
The requirement to start looking at one is the actual range. I need to be able to jump on the freeway set the speed control for 115 and arrive in Melbourne in about 3.5hrs. I know of a few locals that have older Teslas and they can't do it without toping-up at Seymour or further in, unless, they drive at a sedately 80 to 90 kph. My interest was sparked by a Genesis 60 that I looked at in Melbourne recently (has a lot of bells & whistles) with an advertised range of 450 ks but the agent wouldn't say that I would get to Melbourne on my terms.
Any suggestions or pit falls would be appreciated.
