Picked up Laufey's "Bewitched: The Goddess Edition" on vinyl during the Black Friday sales, and during my recent Japan trip, I also purchased a few Japanese artists on vinyl. Slight problem... I don't actually own a turntable.

Looking for some advice from the vinyl aficionados on here as to a half decent first turntable and speaker setup. Have been considering the Audio Technica LP70BXT, but am interested to hear any other suggestions. As for speakers, I hear that Edifiers are decent bang for buck as a starting point. Don't want to spend a fortune, but want something that will give me a decent baseline as I start to explore whether I really want to get into vinyl.

@DejaBrew Hard question to answer, imo hifi can be a rabbit hole, I would look at fb market place or gum tree. I'm guessing you are in Sydney, this seems a good deal for starters.

Cheers @Cossie. Yeah, I appreciate it's a slippery slope where the possibilities are almost endless depending on budget. Guess I don't want to spend megabucks on the off chance that I decide it's not really for me, but at the same time, want something that will offer something half decent for the price and won't destroy my new vinyl acquisitions. The deal you linked is interesting as I'm certainly starting from zero (i.e. no existing usable equipment). I'm potentially willing to go upwards of $1500 for a setup at this stage, but no need to spend all of that if not necessary and the linked setup certainly falls into that budget.

Will do that too, but I really don't know what to be on the lookout for there (at this stage of my journey, at least) so was thinking about starting with a decent beginner system.

Have a look at what Len Wallis Audio has in the used department. You might end up mixing something used with something new. The used gear has been checked over to make sure it all works. At the least you will get good advice. lenwallisaudio.com

As mentioned you'll get good advice even if you drop in and tell them what you are hoping to do and see what they suggest. They will let you know what to mix and match that will work well together. When something gets traded you will get first call.

Have a look at Apollo HiFi as well. I’ve bought a few things such as marantz and Denon from them over the years.

As @Cossie said, this can be a very slippery slope. I went there in my youth, and Encels in Melbourne did very well out of me and my housemates.

I have an Audio Techncia turntable (AT-LP60XBT) plugged into a Sony Bookshelf system (CMT-SBT300WB) via Audio In, and it has provides an excellent sound across a range of different music genres - and it does 11. The stereo also has Bluetooth and Wifi built in, so I can stream from my phone, or off the media drive. It all depends on your needs.

Thanks for your insights on the AT-LP60BXT. I saw updated model (AT-LP70BXT) on my recent travels in Japan and it seems to have some nice updates over the LP60 and reviews well (hence my initial interest in that one). Thanks also for your suggestion re: older vinyl.
