Something big is coming! (1st May)

Amex automatically transferred 118k points just before the end of April. So all I have is 10k flybuys points...........

>insert sad and sheepish clipped_wings face here<

So how fast do ANZ Rewards points come through on credit card deals, if you meet the required spend within the first few days? A 50% bonus on something like a 50K points sign-on would be rather tasty.
Pity I've already got the Travel Rewards card and I think it has direct sweep to VFF. I'm also pretty sure the bonus points for that CC posted a week or so after the min spend was met. Will be cancelling and churning once I get back from next OS trip.

<scurries off to see what other sign-on bonii ANZ may have>

It gets credited pretty fast within a week

I have Travel Adventures card and it doesn't have a direct sweep, although I think there is an option to choose direct sweep if you wish.

Does anyone know if points earned on the Velocity Platinum Amex are included?

How do you live in modern society? Almost all advertising oversells the benefits/quality etc of the product/service that is actually delivered. Look at the QF website as an example....

What did VFF 'oversell'?

What is the appropriate threshold for 'big' in this case?

Would you be happy if VFF had used the line, 'Something small to possibly medium in size is coming'?

As stated, my opinion is that a point bonus offer isn’t “something big” and therefore is oversold.

Yes I’m aware advertising “oversells” - that doesn’t change anything in this case.

Virgin’s marketing (again, my opinion) of recent times isn’t particularly “slick” or engaging but we’re all different and perhaps others love it.

In my opinion, haters gonna hate....

I transferred my flybuys and instantly went into my velocity account with the 15% bonus.
The same day (1st of May) I transferred my reward points , they’ve hit the account tonight ..... no bonus

Not really. I've only just caught up with this thread. "Something big" was clearly not the case.

Now a 100% bonus might be something really tempting and definitely "Something big".

With a bit of old-timers setting in and so much to keep track of, can anyone please advise me if the 15% Flybuys is the best we've done in recent years? I'll certainly be smashing the ANZ transfer also. Virgin is giving so many points away; hopefully there are a lot of toasters being redeemed ;)

I take offence to that (and indeed a couple of earlier posts but I’ve been trying to discuss the topic not individuals). I don’t in any way hate VA and in fact use them (irregularly) when it suits me (usually related to price, availability, corporate booking or indeed sometimes “I just feel like it”).

Seemingly I’m not allowed an opinion that differs from yours. In that case I’m done discussing it further.

Enjoy their super exciting promo.

There's been maybe a couple slightly better than 15% (maybe 18% once but involving more hoops to jump through?), but 15% is what I generally hold out for.
It's a good offer & regular enough I rely on it & that's how I value the points conversion.

I'm happy with 15% again for Amex and FlyBuys transfers. Will addd to my nice little stash of VA points. But I'll worry about transferring them ~29 May, to let them contine to build up.

See my FOMO (or, to be honest forgetting!) saw me empty our accounts yesterday! I'll likely do another sweep mid month & EOM :-)

Doubtful, as you're earning VFF points upfront/there's no exchange or transfer between programs, just a direct credit at the end of each billing cycle.

Of course everyone is allowed to have their own opinion but you should expect overtly inflammatory statements to be challenged.

I assume the only reason for the original post was to elicit a response from others...

Again I don't think so. It's a very uninspiring promotion and again definitely not "Something big" and we should be able to post that in this thread.

If you don't agree then great for you.

P.S. I really hate it when airlines such as Virgin and Qantas offer 15% bonus for one type of transfer, 25% bonus from one credit card and 50% bonus from another credit card when they all initially transfer at 1:1. Points are cheap as it is but makes me feel even cheaper.

The original statement that was made was that this promotion is the 'most underwhelming promo ever'. Obviously this statement is simply not true (or even debatable) and was just designed to incite. When asked to justify the statement, nothing more than 'because' could be provided as of course it could not be justified.

A measured dissenting opinion would not have raised any comment or response.

Quite a few cults on AFF not just Qcult. There's SQcult, there's LMcult, AAcult, Vcult etc.

Some of us have a foot in quite a few camps and can get quite excited when the marketing spin matches what's offered.

The true cult members are the ones who will pay far more ($ and/or points) to actually get less. Those who pay far more and fly hours out of their way when a cheaper, more direct option is available. Those who defend the decline in the J meals by stating you should just eat in the lounge instead. Those who like to sit for up to six hours in a 30 inch seat pitch seat when they could have a extra legroom seat reserved at the time of booking for free. Those who will defend the indefensible.

Although you may find one or two of these cultists on other airlines, there is only one true cult on AFF dwarfing all others...

I will admit that 'select' promotions like this are very 'exciting' -

Personalised Points Target

Earn 152,000 points in three months and get a bonus of 1,500 points. A bonus of less than 1%. Luckily this is not the 'most underwhelming promo ever' as QF did not use the word 'big'....

And again, I don't have a problem with "Big" in this context.

It's just pointing out it's bigger than normal - which it is. No claims to "biggest ever," or "most gigantic" or anything over the top like that.

Any over expectation beyond that is on the reader, not the campaign.
