I deleted the reminder email.

So is this something big on the horizon going to be the ability to redeem points at BP? Oh my goodness we must be suckers.

I think it is a 4c discount off the litre price of petrol.

Well that's certainly a new idea from marketing. I trust the product manager will get a huge bonus for originality.

Unconditional 4c discount for Velocity members? That will bring BP closer to most service stations in my area.

Lead to believe so that if you wipe a Velocity card you will get the discount.

When I was in BP recently the checkout person was telling everyone to make sure they have one and always swipe to get the fuel discount savings "coming in a few weeks" and another BP was saying the same.

Naturally, not confirmed until there is any announcement as it could be wrong. (bit like "galley talk")

Got this email today:

Took me about 20 seconds to do it in the end when the site worked. Only a four digit pin though, hardly state-of-the-art security. I think we had that at QF in about 1996?

Not quite.

It would appear from next week you will be able to redeem 1,667 Velocity points for $10 of fuel at BP.

Oh my goodness we must be suckers....

ahhh, I don't think "we" will be the suckers, but I suspect there are a large amount of people who have points, but no hope of achieving high enough status to redeem for international upgrades, or know to book far enough in advance for reward seats. What about the people who got a FF card from BP solely to collect points? Their dreams of international jet setting should be dashed enough by now to think this is a marvellous idea

Filled up yesterday at BP, and when I swiped my velocity card, the option came up to use points for $10.00 off (Im guessing it was the 1,667 range as I forgot to pay close attention). First time I'd seen it, but haven't filled up in the last week.

What was frustrating, is the fact you have to choose OK or CLR to accept or decline the discount. So this is going to happen every time I fill up. I wish there was a way to opt out of the "offer".

There is: Log in to the Velocity website, select 'Pay with Points In-Store', then click the little text link at the bottom to turn it off. Then you won't need to say "no" every time you swipe your Velocity card.

At least there is a way to opt out as posted above. That was a disaster waiting to happen.

You could always fill up the tank and drive to MEL.

Managed to do that on my old twin-tank Mini – fill both tanks to the top and you could drive all the way from Sydney to Melbourne without refuelling. Of course, flying would have been a little more fun!

Sounds like a Mini Cooper S :p

Anyway, I've just deactivated the offer for +1 and myself before our points evaporate quicker than petrol at a fuel spill!
