Sour dough needs to go

Put your teeth in first? 

funny about that.....last year I took my 82yr old mum on a trip....her first in J.
Bris- Mel she was having a lovely time, sipping on a scotch with dinner. But then, the disaster....she bit into the sour dough bread, and her top front tooth broke clean off her denture !!
I too love the bread....but now, I'm very careful when eating it.
And no, I don't have dentures, but don't want to lose my tooth either.
it didn't make a good start to her holiday when our first stop was to the denture clinic

TQ

Hey serious question... how do you eat the crust? I've never had anything less than rock hard served up?

I'm shocked.

Mainly because this means there are people out there that can break through the crust :p

I've been known to break through the upper crust. ;)

The CX bread tray is delightful and I've had both their sourdough and garlic bread on the same meal. Yummy.

+1 for keeping sourdough - the crustier the better for me.
+1 on getting rid of the Lurpak abomination, although it's better than the 'foamy' aerated butter spread you get on some US airlines.

Other airlines don't use sourdough and it's just QF from my experience....?
Hmmm, don't Virgin do a sour dough roll?

Although they do have an alternative soy and linseed...

But I too am a fan of the bread basket approach on some Asian carriers...

And side with those in the garlic camp (pictured below a Thai J tray entree)

Absolutely love sour dough, but there are nicer ones than the ones QF serves. - chowder in a sour dough bowl at Boudin's in San Francisco, or organic sour dough from the Farmer's market in Canberra. Life's little pleasures....

Absoloutely.

Had my first taste of sourdough at Fisherman's Wharf (San Francisco) in 1980 and was hooked - and have been for 32 years and counting.

One of the few items of US-culture invasion that I have no objection to (other than that we honestly can't make it as well as the CA's do!).

Now where does does every stand on a good NY Bagel? ;)

That right there has to be one of the best sourdoughs on the planet!

When sourdough is done right it's amazing problem is most places do it badly (not fresh, too hard a crust, etc).

I have to admit I go back to San Francisco just for it! Haven't tried a NY bagel (there is only so much eating you can do), but NY pizza - now that is something (and I don't even like pizza!)
