Southern Tasmania wine tasting - Saturday 5th November

Regrettably I may now be firmly back on the fence (ouch, that's not a comfortable metaphor)...

There is a joint housewarming / birthday party for 2 friends in Melbourne that evening, so it may prove difficult to do both.

They should all come down and enjoy some choice beverages first and then go for the housewarming  ;)

That is possible, but I don't have a good record with flights immediately after wine tastings.

Our illustrious organiser will remember a "Mad Dash" at ADL last year.

Sounds like you are trying to avoid me.

Any suggestions on where to stay in Hobart, with no chains then it makes it harder to find somewhere.

Maybe when holidays are involved the lazy gene takes over.

I know I'll be booking the Travelodge Hobart airport Sunday night the 6th (6:05AM flight Monday morning , thankfully in business), but haven't looked too specifically otherwise. Slightly limited as I will have a rental car and would like to not pay much for parking (though this might help penegal to avoid another airport rush!). There's a 4:45PM HBA-MEL nonstop with Deathstar, then next is 6:10PM with VA arriving MEL at 7:25PM, in terms of flights on the 5th.

Just came across this thread. Thanks for organising RooFlyer. Colour me Gold ATM as I'm not sure about my Nov schedule yet.

For accom in Hobart I recommend RACV, it's where I stayed during a recent weekend/wine tour. Location was great, clean rooms, free parking and decent rates (even better with AAA membership).

Henry Jones Art Hotel is probably the best hotel in Hobart, but also one of the most expensive. I believe MONA is also good, and something in Salamanca, but the prices can be a bit high.

For the AFF do a few years ago I stayed in a 1 Bedroom Suite at The Old Woolstore which was perfectly adequate, and could even accommodate a few rowdy AFFers.

I should note at this point that we are well short of the critical number of Platinums to make the tour a go-er (the 6 keenest have already been!) . I know its still a way-off, and I'm one of those least able to plan well ahead, but within a few weeks I'll reach the point of needing to price, based on the numbers who were pretty confident of coming. If its obviously a no-go, then people hopefully won't be stuck with flights etc.

So please get the diaries out and see if you are able to come along. :)

You can add swanning_it and mrs swanning_it to the platinum tally.

I am a high probability! Possibly even with partner. Thanks for offering to organise!

As I live in Hobart it may be silly for me to miss out on this event. Price is great, especially compared to the hosted whiskey tours down here, Frogmore's chef is simply outstanding. My wife may like to go so I will chat to her this evening.

Ok, Mrs Tassie is not a fan of bus travel, even mini-bus, she tends to get travel sick. So question is can we drive with you guys instead? If that is ok we are both a definite yes.

A quick post to see if we have the critical numbers or whether this one has to slip through to the keeper? I'd like to start making bookings given we are now within the 2 months out time frame. :D

Im in SFO, waiting to catch QF 74 tonight.

The tour will be the first order of business when I get back :)

At the moment, I have the following as 'definites':

Doug-Westcott
The BOSman
v1nce007
Bundy bear
Lowjhg
swanning_it and mrs swanning_it
tassieoptom and mrs tassieoptom
viridianne

Have I missed anyone?

Unfortunately, this is well short of the numbers to make the tour viable. I will hold open the possibility of a late rush of platinums for another week, but at the moment, this tour will not run, sorry :( .
