Flog off the flabby 388s which, on certain routes, they don't fill.
Current in service 748s (and 747s in general) have a better track record then the A380s?
Boeing must be desperate for 748 sales.
Maybe QF could do a deal, get 28 748I's at a cheap price, a finance deal (much like for AA's 77W and 737 mass order) for some QF branded 789s, and trade in the A380s.

Would have to be Thai. It would add nicely to the diversity of their fleet :p and complete the 4 A350's they have on order ;)
That would be great. I might start flying direct again. ;)

It will be a sad day when there are no longer any QF 747s (or any others for that matter) in the skies. For pure design, presence and class it hands the A380 its cough!
Sad day when any 747's are gone. I just cannot imagine flying without an option to go on a 747.

I'm hoping for a VA international expansion, would let them bring back their JNB route and compete with QF to south america, too.

I'm well and truly prepared for disappointment though!

As posted on another board recently - the problem with the A380 is there is no trade in market.
Reportedly the upper floor cannot be converted for freighter usage, and the aircraft is just too big for the usual airlines picking up 2nd hand aircraft.

The finance companies that financed a chunk of the Emirates fleet are a bit worried.

Wishful thinking on QF and the 748 in my view.

Well they could always do a combi style configuration (sort of like the 747 combi's), with all pax on the top deck and the middle / lower decks reserved for freight...

Would the re-engineering be worth it though?

Seems to me that a QF-painted 748i would be a pipe dream. I hope not, but unless they were to fob off their A380s to someone who really wants them (cough, EK, cough) and go with a simplified B748i/A330/B737 mainline fleet....but their would have to be some incomprehensible economics in play to make it worthwhile selling off near new A380s.

Why would EK be interested in used A380's when they already have god knows how many on order? They will probably order the NEO version too if it ever gets built...
