Re: The totally off-topic thread

This is where being ballsy can pay off. For the past 10 years I've been getting F & J award seats (>50) by waiting until the last week/s. QFF will (or nearly always) cough up CX and BA seats at the last minute.....this is how the amaroos have been travelling as a family pack up at the pointing end.

There is absolutely no way we could ever have travel plans like that.Mrsdrron is the poster lady for type A personalities. It is only recently that I have been able to persuade her to get to the airport less than 3 hours before depature. And it is only 2.45 hours I am talking about.

And you can change plans at the last minute? I can't. There is also the BNE-SYD commute to consider. I want the cheapest possible airfares and accommodation so have to firm up bookings in advance.

I need a new strategy for my Qantas points. Maybe toasters is the way to go.

I've booked long and I've booked short - happy days

Less time for bubbles if you get there at 2.45 ;)

Re: The totally off-topic thread

Must be restricted to WPs because as a WP1 I didn't notice any extra love.
Must be only special treatment for Platinums. ;)

Expect to be disappointed ... then if anything better than disappointment happens then you are ahead. :D
So just prepare to get stuck behind a serial recliner for ~9 hours and then anything else is a bonus? :p

I need to some preparation for these flights. Note to self. Make sure you can pre-allocate and if you can't then try and pay for exit rows.

Never had a problem preallocating bulkhead seats on EK metal.

Is that like the comment "Emirates treats Qantas Platinums better"?

If there's one thing I have learned on AFF is to expect the worst and you won't be disappointed.

No- EK basically allow almost full selection of seats for anyone with a booking @ first in best dressed ... Just get a seat map before booking.

Thanks. Date is not negotiable. I'll take my chances. Need to look at paid upgrades to exit rows if worse comes to worst.

The demands of family travelling! I've never missed getting seats, however I'd say out of 50 about 4 have been on QF metal and involved some unusual itineraries - thank god for CX and BA! It was easier when BA9/10 was still servicing SYD. It was a sad day when BA announced they were pulling out :(

We've got a couple of trips coming up where the kids will be staying home :p (first for us)......HKG for our 20th & ATH/IST/UK for Anzac 2015. Much easier to book flights and hell of a lot cheaper in points and $ :D It was liberating booking two x P SYD-LHR-SYD for April next year - try doing that for four....

Re: The totally off-topic thread

Thinking of buying economy Emirates both ways and travelling in business class because I am Platinum. I heard on AFF all QF Platinums are guaranteed op-ups on Emirates.

all ? - I must have missed the memo somewhere ...

LOL, JohnK - I have never been op-uped on EK (or QF for that matter). You should expect to travel in the ticketed cabin. My last couple of EK flights were "full, but not that full", so no op-ups.

I never expect an op-up.

By the way my sequence number has been 160+ the past few months SYD-BNE Sunday afternoon and flights are very full but not one op-up. In fact one time I had seq 174 on a 168 seat plane and only 2 infants. At least I can get row 4 most times.

It was a few months back for me so stretching the memory but I don't recall having to pay for exit rows on EK. Can't guarantee that though....

John why Not go EK F on points from HKG to BKK then points it if possible from BKK -SYD

My parents are both WP and flew together on four EK flights and received 0 op-ups.

Best of luck to you!

My choices were BKK-HKG on CX, RJ, UL in business followed by HKG-SYD on A380 and 747 on return and then pay for SYD-BNE return as well. That was going to cost ~AUD2,000, possibly more, and return ~200SCs.

I am now going to fly BKK-SYD-BNE in L class on EK/QF for ~AUD1,250 and earn ~120SCs.

It will be a shame not to fly on the A380/747 but I cannot justify spending that much extra.

My only thoughts are do I keep both BKK-SYD and SYD-BKK QF flights and try and upgrade with points to business. How easy would be it for upgrade requests on these flights?

Re: The totally off-topic thread

And unfortunately I've got points oozing out of my ears and can't use them for travel end of January 2015 as there isn't a reward seat in sight unless you want fly Jetstar on 29 January.

Yes I know busy time of the year.

As a WP, you should get award seats released (if you ask nicely).
