Spend AUD600+ more on 380 HKG-SYD for 200SCs?

Re: The totally off-topic thread

As a WP, you should get award seats released (if you ask nicely).

Thanks for this advice.

I called today regarding HKG-SYD flight with no award availability end of January 2015.

Ecomomy is closed for requests. Only premium economy for 45,000 QFF points or business class for 60,000 QFF points. Taxes and surcharges are ~HKD1100. No guarantee though that request will be granted. But if it's granted I will more than likely sit in First.

Why am I waiting?

Re: The totally off-topic thread

So just prepare to get stuck behind a serial recliner for ~9 hours and then anything else is a bonus?

Is reclining a seat that is able to be reclined (after seat belt signs are off) against the rules?

Who said it was against the rules?

And neither is it against the rules to try everything possible to not sit behind a serial recliner including and not limited to pre-allocating bulkhead and/or paying for exit rows.

You implied it. Referring to someone as a 'serial recliner' implies that they shouldn't be doing it. You are perfectly entitled to avoid the issue by choosing a bulkhead row, but you don't get to complain if someone does recline because they are allowed to and there is nothing you can do about it.

Wrong. I ensure that I never have to sit behind a recliner.

Let's not get into another reclining debate. You think it is OK. I don't.

So then you shouldn't have a beef with those who do recline.

I think you are missing the point. Of course it is OK. In just the same way that it is OK for someone to sit in the seat next to you. You objecting to pax reclining is the same as you objecting to another pax sitting next to you because you think it is an invasion on your space.

Seats are meant to be reclined (within the rules) and therefore they will be. If they weren't meant to be they would be fixed. Get over it

Re: The totally off-topic thread

Mr_Orange,

There have been numerous debates on AFF about seat reclining and JohnK has very strong views on the subject.

Let us please not go there again as it really is a topic best left alone.

Yeah. We definitely don't need another popcorn thread. I don't understand why WP call centre can't get JohnK a reward seat released. I pretty much always managed to get seats released when I called up both as a P1 and WP to burn on classic redemptions. I was turned down maybe twice the whole time I've been a QFF member.

That is what I posted before the focus turned to reclining.

Cannot request economy seat. Can request premium economy or business. No guarantees but I guess the request decision would be known in a few days?

Also from what I understand there would be a good chance I would sit in First with a business class award?

I should stop procrastinating.

And as it turns out Qantas has released a sale to HKG that includes March/April next year.

So that means another 2 economy flights on 747 for ~$833 return travelling before and after Easter 2015.

I don't know what it is with the A330 that makes me resent it so much.

You are lucky you aren't PER based, as you don't have much choice. There are a lot of 330's over here!

Yes that is sad. To be honest the PER-SIN flight was one flight I did not mind on an A330 as it was a relatively short flight.

Not looking forward to SYD-BKK economy return in September. Flight is too long to spend in an A330 but luckily I have managed 23J both ways.

You'll be right JohnK - atleast you have a decent lounge prior to the SYD leg!

I have only asked once and it had to be "referred to yield management" until the next day. But then it was released, so I was happy.

I called today regarding release of Business class seat in January 2015.

Not that important but there was a 20 minute wait on the phone. What is happening with Qantas?

Request put in for business class award seat and it was approved almost immediately. That was a good thing. I didn't realise there was a booking fee! In all the posts I have read on AFF not once have I heard anyone mention booking fees when requesting an award seat to be released.

Still 60,000 points and ~AUD235 for a business class seat in 11K is not a bad deal.

Now fingers crossed I get that call to move into First Class seats or is 11K upper deck just as good? I notice the lounge is not far.
