Had SQ J Savers booked MEL-PVG Apr 25 / PVG-MEL May 2 for 8 months - due to our Chinese manufactueres jerking us around AGAIN had to madly scramble to bring dates forward 6 days.

Checking on Sun Apr 7 no J Savers available on suitable dates but was able to snag F Saver Apr 19 MEL-PEK which suited better cause had to go to Tianjin - but could not get J or F Savers out of PVG on Apr 29 - so again snagged F Saver PEK-MEL - no biggie - quick flight PVG-PEK to catch 16:45 flt ex PEK.

I did waitlist J Saver and F Saver PVG-MEL on 29th but waitlist period expired and thought I was stuck with PEK-MEL - no biggie - I can tolerate an extra hour in F.

Am sitting in hotel room in PEK as I type this - just checked SQ site again and lo and behold both J and F Savers PVG-MEL on 29th now showing available - what the heck - grab F to get fully flat bed.

Morale is all you guys seeking F and J Savers do the waitlist thingy but keep checking and re-checking cause they do release more seats if loads only so so.

F Saver is 76K KF pts one way - and to get F seats a week from departure just fantastic - and I'll be happy to turn my phone off - and give up my glass til after take-off then force another Krug down - gotta love SQ.

The issue as you point out is the business planning. For the longer legs we want to maximise the time on the ground at our destination and so need the certainty of the travel dates to make sure we can get there.

I guess one strategy as you prompt is to have a confirmed redemption booked and paid. Then a few days out check if F saver is available.

SQ comes through again - need to be in PEK wk beg 03/06 - last week no J savers ex MEL showing at all 03/06 through 08/06 - so I waitlisted 3rd, 4th and 5th.

This morn receive email 5th conf - check online all 3 flts ex MEL showing availability - gotta love SQ.

And ample F Savers return too - I like the 16:45 ex PEK then connect midnight flt to MEL - but only regional J so F Savers best go on return.

Life is good.

Well life in terms of F and J Savers with SQ is good anyway.

Not that long ago I had to spend 52K pts to redeem a one way J Saver MEL-PEK on either 747 space bed or new reg product - 105K for J Standard if I wanted 380 or 77W.

Now its 62K for a J Saver on all 3 flts ex MEL - that does make the reg J product look overpriced if you intend sleeping.

But IMHO the real value post new regime are F Savers - 78K MEL-PEK / PEK-MEL - and the best part is ready availability.

Yep I just gotta keep driving that points earning program and upgrade to F Savers permanently

Kris points certainly have opened my opportunities to get to the UK , Europe and North America for the seven in my nominee lists.

We run with 2 Kris accounts so technically it is 10 but for ease of travelling as a pair we are on each account.

SQ (SIA) Yield Management do regularly review the loads and the waitlists, especially closer to departure, so seats can become available. Also if a PPS member asks nicely and the stars align, saver seats do appear.

Also, I have had confirmed saver upgrades appear when saver redemption seats are not available or waitlisted.

They certainly do - I have had a J Saver MEL-PEK confirmed on Jun 5 for coupla weeks and F Savers for Jun 3, 4 and 5 on waitlist - today F Saver on Jun 4 confirms - 11 days pre departure - god I love SQ - 2.5hrs in Private Room in F well worth the extra 14K pts.

Problem with SQ's connections is that they are just TOO GOOD - look what I am contronted with on return:

50 mins connection serious pain in the cough - wanting at least 2 hours in F lounge to get full value.

Depending how quickly (or not) you take off at PEK, you may have a very tight connection. I have been delayed >1 hr by ATC on my last 3 PEK departures on SQ (all red eyes).

I believe SQ801 is a 77A with new F at the moment, which would give you a day in Singapore and a long evening session in the FL / TPR if you can put up with two red-eyes back to MEL.

Last time I flew out of PEK was Mar 26 this year and the fockers had put a stop on pre-take off drinks out of PEK - jeez I hate that.

Am actually praying for delay - could do with a night in SIN.

Thought I might Book The Cook for upcoming flt SQ218 on Jun 4 - check the drop down box - tossing up between Lobster Thermidor or Toasted Multigrain Bread - decisions decisions.............

Toasted multigrain bread? OMGAWESOMESAUCE, how do I get that?

How do you find BTC? To be honest I actually prefer the regular meal service (and/or sleeping on red-eyes).

Click on Manage Booking then click on Select Meal top right hand corner.

Yes I wasn't really serious about the meal - I am usually well and truly liquored up by the time I board - coupla Champers on board and then the sleeping tablets kick in - they have to wake me to get me off the plane.

Still hoping mine will clear by 1 June.

Had a shock today when I discovered infant redemption is counted as an adult!

The lobster thermidor was really good and I have had it more than once!

Food on SQ always interesting - IMHO food served ex MEL superior to food served ex SIN and way superior than served ex PEK or PVG or MNL - I guess that should not be surprising though.

SQ comes through again - have had SQ227 SIN-MEL on June 10 waitlisted in J for a week or so and it confirmed overnight - 11 days prior to flight - god I love SQ.

But here is my dilemna - already have F Saver confirmed for June 10 with 5+ hours in F lounge - do I cancel F and take the J saving 18.5K pts - or do I stick with the F and and endure a few hours in Private Room?

Decisions decisions - cove? Dajop? kpc? Alby? Penegal? Looking for opinions from you learned gentlemen?
