SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

SYD-SIN-LHR on Oct 18th, coming back on Oct 26th. All in F.
Does anyone know when the new suites are flying?
And how can I tell if the 777's have the new F?
Thanks!

New Suites I think Dec on SYD-SIN? Unless delays.

Not sure I think CE has posted before about how to tell. Just flew LHR-SIN and got the old F (assumed they'd only put new F on that route...) which was truth be told quite a step down from Suites and CX F. Bedding not great no real cushioning at all, dips near the feet and was just a tad too short, seat belt also quite annoying. New F might have the same issues as well I don't know.

There are 7 variants of 777 - I have long given up trying to foresee which is which.

We had new F MEL-SIN on 238 on Mon - 10:40-16:20 - just a fabulous daytime flt - the meal was just superb - but then into Suites next nt headed to ZRH and it is still just a huge step up.

1hr flight delay was notified at checkin with airport vouchers given 2 x 15 pounds. Is going to cost a few dollars on my domestic connection with what must be 20kg of chocolate. Can't complain about that service though. Offered cart to the lounge as well which was a good touch - declined as stepping on the scales will be a nervous experience even with 4 weeks of walking around Europe. LHR SQ lounge isn't great and was packed. United dragon was one of the rudest ladies I have ever met. I'd even shoot off an email if I thought it wasn't systemic to United.

As daytime I assume no sleeping? Although I slept on my SYD-SIN in Suites...couldn't resist after a couple of glasses of wine. If I were to talk about old F in non-sleeping regards then also really nice. Didn't feel it felt worn beyond a gash in the leather behind my head (who cares) and very comfortable in the seated position. Not sure if the screen is bigger in new F?

No sleeping on 238 - well almost none. Only 4 pax for 8 seats - another couple in 1 C/D - crew offered to make up 2A for me to sleep but I declined - after a skinful of Krug and RWT I did happen to poke out a few ZZZZZs in recline.

5 pax in R SIN-ZRH - the Ette and I in 3 C/D - another couple in 2A/3A and a single dude in 2F. I asked crew member why other couple didn't take up 2 C/D and she replied they wanted window seats. 346 dep SIN at 01:25 and arr into ZRH 08:15 - ain't much lookin' out window time.

Worked well for us as crew imm made up 2 C/D for us post take off - after big pig out in TPR no room for food and after only couple Krugs got ~7hrs continuous sleep. Breakfast was excellent on board - whilst SQ coffee on board is excellent we are both strong tea drinkers for bfast. Usually English Bfast tea on SQ but Crew enlightened us to another tea stocked on all SQ flts that is not listed on menu - BOH:

This is just beautiful tea - same region in Malaysia as Liptons but just a beautiful strong tea - I have never heard of it before - forget the TWG stuff and go for this.

Rule of thumb is if you flight sells PE then it will have 4 new F up front. There are 5 other planes with 8 new F up front and no PE. This is where flightradar24 is your friend nearer to flight time

ADE to SIN arrives 3:10 pm and we fly on to LGK at 5:55pm will this allow us much time to check out the lounge for refreshments ? Or just to much of a rush ? Any advice much apriciated

The word on sqtalk.com is that all 77WNs (new 8F) are being converted to 77WR with 4F and PE, and then the 773s with the 2006 F will be converted to 77WRs using the 2013 seats removed from the 77WNs.

generally for seating something in the middle of the cabin works well... away from galley and WCs at either front or rear of the cabin. A pair together and one on the other side of the aisle works well.

Arriving 3.10 from ADL gives you oodles of time to enjoy the lounge. You should be in the lounge by 3.30 at the latest, and won't need to be at your gate until about 5.30pm. So just under two hours of lounge time (allowing for time to walk to your next gate).

Security is done at the gate, but getting there 25-30mins before departure is fine. Just ask at the lounge entrance how long they estimate for you to walk to your next gate... the walk can be lengthy.

Seats 2C and 2D today from SYD to SIN then HKT

Yummy Krug to start
My favorite Bordeaux is back on the wine list Pichon Laplande 2004

Looks like a great ride

is the 15% online booking discounts gone? so it now no longer makes a difference if you call up to make a redemption booking vs doing it via online?

Yes and yes, they got rid of it back in March. Along with some award route 'enhancements' (to be read as points required increase for the most part). And removal of fuel surcharge.

Thanks for the info, do you know if SQ will open up more redemptions at T-7 days or so to fill up their flights? I have noticed this with asiamiles/cathay pacific but I have never tried with SQ, I usually book at 300+ days out. I need 5 J class tickets in sept and at the moment its only 5 J syd-sin but then only 3 J sin-tpe.

Testing the theory of whether or not SQ opens up more redemption for 28th June I can get 6 J savers syd-sin @ 11am which is quite surprising, but doesn't necessarily mean they do open up more seats for redemption.

Edit: Interesting, I can book 6x First class savers on the 7:55am flight syd-sin 28/6 too. I've never seen more than 2 Savers for first class available before.

Anyone have more data points to support the theory that SQ also opens up more redemption seats to fill up their planes?

Lots of talk about the F champagne, however can anyone tell me what lowly J passengers are likely to get?
I'm looking forward to my little jaunt from MEL to LHR in August, however feel like I might need to pack my QF J pajamas and bring my own amenity kit
One day I'll do F or Suites... One day.

CE, do you know if positive feedback sent to the feedback email gets given to the crew, or just to the relevant manager?

Absolutely 100% it gets right through to crew - SQ take Service appreciation very seriously.

FWIW I always ask for list of crew within the cabin I am travelling - the Manager in each cabin will readily supply list of names and their rank and I always go to trouble of writing in full crew names and rank in feedback emails.

Positive crew feedback to SQ is about the best thing you can do for any crew member.
