Hi Cove, i am an IHG member too, but i might be using AMEX Travel to book a room, since i get $400 travel credit via my AMEX Explorer card.

Does anyone understand the routing rules for SQ redemption flights? I am contemplating flying SIN-SYD but using ANA and routing via Tokyo (NH844/NH879). Would this be permitted for the same points cost as SIN-SYD directly (58,000 miles one-way for saver award)?

It's too much of a back-track for Krisflyer. You can do it using LifeMiles though.

The easiest way to find out would be to call Singapore Airlines, but as far as I know there are two main requirements for SQ partner awards... there must be a published fare (routing) and no backtracking. Visiting the ANA Singapore site it returned a message that there were no available flights for SIN-SYD. So that's potentially a hurdle.

Can be done through Krisflyer, but only at the cost of a SIN-NRT and NRT-SYD award summed together! It is more than double the distance of the direct route so definitely not allowed for a single award on the SIN-SYD zone.

Unfortunately this is also likely to be refused as it involves backtracking. While I'm not necessarily convinced about north-south 'backtracking', this is clearly a case of flying east, and then back-tracking west to do AKL-SYD.

Again, SQ will be the arbiter of what's allowed, it'll only take them a minute to give you an answer. Neither of these proposed routings are borderline.

Thanks all for the tips an advice.

I have just returned from a PER-SIN-LHR and LHR-SIN-PER J and F suites flight.
Very nice suites product and the flight attendants in general are very attentive and always willing to please.
SIN-LHR we got the newer (but inferior) amenities bag.
LHR-SIN we got the older but nicer amenities bag.
Also out of SIN suite and business we got the 70th anniversary amenities.

TPR is a bit sterile to me. If you like to be waited upon for everything then this is the place for you.
LHR United Global First lounge has a nice layout much better than SQ First, but closes at 7pm. Food and drink SQ is better.
They provide a buggy ride in LHR T2 from A to B terminal for F passengers.

Thanks to SQ Singapore for the assistance in checking our luggage through to our Flybe connecting flight (on separate economy tickets). And at LHR they sent a gate attendant to personally take us through immigration and check that our baggage has been transferred and then in again through priority security to the onward flight. (NOTE: you need to pass through immigration and then back through immigration even though in the same terminal due to requiring biometric face scan done or else you can't board domestic flight.

Are multi-city Award bookings possible on-line? It appears not, as the multi-city option disappears if you select 'redeem miles'.

If this is the case, I guess you have to ring up to book? Any extra charges with this?

What are the chances of booking these 2, then trying to book 2 more? I note when I change PAX to 3 or 4, it is all wait listed. Is this because they don't want people booking 4 seats in one go or does that mean literally only 2 seats are left?

From my own experience, SQ doesn't open up more seats closer to the flight, so that would be a no.
Only Cathay/asiamiles has been good to me in regards to opening up more availability.

I've only booked 2 suites, but I've booked between 300 and 355 days. Every time at least one of my flights is waitlisted. I called and asked the agent to email the route manager a request to release the seats, and have had success 4 out of 4 times doing so. Last time, while she was still adding notes and whatever to my account, an email came in from scheduling/routing advising me to call reservations as my seats were available for confirmation. Other times its taken 24-48 hours. Last time there were already 4 suites reserved by other pax.

The most recent success was two weeks ago for a flight in November where I upgraded us from J to Suites as a surprise to the better half. Before that it was SYD-SIN/SIN-LAX/LAX-NRT/NRT-SIN/SIN-SYD, all of the flights in F/R and waitlisted. Booking in August for June 2018. Waitlist was cleared in 24 hours after requesting an expedited release of the seats.

If it were me, I'd book the 2 in F/R, and 2 in J (waitlist them in F/R), then call and ask for a release. Last time I did it, the agent asked if there was a special occasion for the trip so she could include it in the request as motivation for them to release the seats.

SQ seems to be the last ones with the concept of customer service and going the extra mile, so it is well worth the effort to ask.
