SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Every time I’ve been to SIN it has been unbelievably humid, except the 23.40 hours I was there at the start of May, it was only just quite hot and humid so I was pleasantly surprised. But, do take very lightweight cotton clothes and sandals if going out to see the Gardens by the Bay etc, and remember to put them in the carry on if checking the main case through.

Any guru's here used United miles for a SQ booking before?

I've made a KIX-SIN-MEL booking on the 787-10 and 777-200 using UM miles (50k united miles vs 83k KF miles - rather keep KF miles for longer Europe redemptions on better SQ planes, and burn these), but is there any way of book the cook/seat selection via SQ Website or call centre? I have selected seats on united - it allowed me to select bulkheads.. but not sure if they stick with SQ?

Cannot login to SQ Manage my booking with the PNR, nor can I use the PNR on CheckMyTrip/etc.

Deka2 we leave our main luggage and just take our carry on thru immigration check for the walk to the Crowne Plaza. About 12 hours in Singapore is my limit for humidity and we find the CP to be very comfortable for splitting up a long haul trip.
In Perth we get ticketed thru to London or Los Angeles so our luggage is handled seamlessly. Breakfast in TPR then off you go.
I think we are up to thirteen times as the Hotel keeps a count for us. We are in the Intercontinental loyalty system.
The walk to the Crowne Plaza is not far unless you have moved into extra glasses of Krug.
On SQ 218. Taxiing out as I type. 2 nights in Singapore should just about exhaust me, then back to Oz Monday. Valentina Lisitsa Sunday night!!!

For a quick stop in Singapore it is well worth having a pair of shorts/skirt etc available in your carry-on as the number of people you see sweating profusely in trousers/jeans even in the airport is huge.

If you have long enough between flights then you can go on one of the Govt sponsored tourism tours when the need for shorts etc really makes itself known as you get 2 or 3 stops to walk around and see the sights.

The 'Tripadvisor' bags they give you are about 2/3rds normal carry bag size and proved unexpectedly useful as document/newspaper carriers. Not too big that they can be over-loaded!

I'm booked on Sq218 on 30th July which was the a380, but just had a look tonight and all the planes for Sq218 around that time is now the 777. Do they normally advise you by email if they change planes?

Previous flights on SQ where I have a pre selected seat and an aircraft change has occurred I have received an email.
Looking at the schedule, SQ218 is a 777 the last week of July except for Thur 26th / Fri 27th where it is a A380 then back to 777 until Thur August 2nd where it reverts to a A380 again and I'm on it on the 4th.

hmmm, I haven't received any emails yet. My original ticket has Suites/First Class (O) but it doesn't show the aircraft type anymore. On my past tickets they all show aircraft type.

Does anyone know how long before a flight you are able to view the inflight menu? I have a suites booking for August and have the option to select book the cook options, however the section to view the inflight menu is currently blacked out. Would prefer to know what will be on offer prior to possibly selecting a book the cook option.

Usually around 30 days prior to departure.

+1 to that.
You will have loads of time to look at your inflight options and then BTC if you so desire.
Glad I did last week - managed to BTC "eye fillet of beef" instead of inflight "braised beef cheek" yeeuugh....

As long as you're not starting or ending in Singapore and at least one leg has a transit less than 24hrs you can get it.

EDIT: find the "i shop changi" counters locally next to the gst counters

Funny that. I came through SIN twice in Jul 2017 & wasn't offered any vouchers. Going SIN for 2018-19 new year, so hope they are still on.
You have to go and ask for them at the desk in the terminal, located behind some of the shops - follow the duty free pick up signs (or at least that's what we did in June 2017 and again this January. Another bonus with SIA F on points!

Has to be a return booking doesn’t it?

I’ve just earned about 20,000 elite qualifying miles which takes me to about 60,000. This has moved me from gold to silver.

I assumed that the extra 10,000 miles or so would start to show up as credit toward requalification. It hasn’t and my account shows zero miles toward requalification.

Have I ‘lost’ the elite qualifying miles? I’m not a big *A flyer so it would be nice to have them to make it easier to maintain *A gold.

Thanks
