SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

I am planning a trip to Europe for next year and as there is no F out of Perth it will need to be a J/F award.

Has anyone had any recent experience with booking mixed class awards?

It seems there were some issues getting these priced at the F rate rather than two separate awards. around the time of the award chart change and removal of the online discount and YQ. I can't seem to find any recent info though.

Ideally I would also pay the $100 fee and add a stopover in SIN if this was still an option.

Last time i checked the award charts had a small blurb on the bottom about pricing for mixed cabins. If that’s still there you can make the call armed with the necessary information.

random one - if bassinet seats in suites have been assigned to people travelling without infant, would they be bumped?

basically we've redeemed a last minute ticket and 2c/d have already been assigned - but call centre confirmed no baby in travelling party. However because they are already assigned they are saying can't guarantee bassinet. i see options as hoping station manager shows sense and moves the people, but any other back up plans? (i assume it's a party of 2 who probably want the double bed, but selfishly i'd like to put our bub in the bassinet rather than on our lap/ in a single suite for 12+ hours)

i know last resort is a polite word onboard but SOL otherwise?

Cheers

YES - pax occupying bassinet seat will be requested to move Suite id bassinet is indeed reqd by another pax.

Bassinet seats cannot be selected online - only way to have them allocated to you is to call SQ and request and at that time you vall then call ctr rep will (should) make it clear to caller that if bassinet seat reqd by another pax then they will be reqd to change seat.

Of course if 2 pax from 2 different couples require bassinet then couples will be split.

You need to be proactive and call SQ/KF call ctr on 02 8228 1188

hello everyone, expert points accumulator, newbie points user here

as a gift to a close family friend husband and wife, im using my points to book F (new suites) from Melb to a european city of their choice

theyre intending to do a cruise from the city and arrive back at the same place, maybe stay around a few weeks and visit a few countries

so to minimise taxes/surcharges, i believe its 296k points + $270 odd in taxes return

their dates arent set but they are looking at may ish 2019

Whats the best way to secure them? someone said to book a few flights in case one of them become avaiailble, and since its less than 12 months, they will be on the waiting list,

if there is a stop over option for a few days for the same price, that may be an option too for them

thanks in advance everyone

As far as I am aware the new suites don't fly from Melbourne, so you'd have to look at options which connect via Sydney (if that's possible when redeeming :/ ).

When transferring via SIN with a long transfer time (I'm planning on staying the night at Crowne Plaza) - do I get to choose if my checked luggage can be picked up in Singapore and re-checked the next day? Or is it always transferred, and therefore I should be planning on some hand luggage items for the overnight?

Cheers!

I had no problem in March. See my posts here:

I don't think you will find 2 (or even 1) Saver awards in the new suites so unless you're prepared to pay the higher standard rates, you might have to "settle" for the older suites, but that will let them go direct MEL-SIN, rather than via SYD.

I think you get a free stopover if you book a Saver return ticket, but if you book each direction separately, it will be US$100 per person to add a stopover. As I recall, the trade off seems to be that availability/choice of connections is better when booking one-ways, at least online.

That's not what I wanted to hear :(
But it's better to know
Would it be better to tell them to change their plans to July for example and get on the waiting list asap?

Last time I looked you couldn't even wait list a single ticket on the new suites SYD-SIN..

Edit: in Saver. You could book "Advantage" rewards, but that's 150,000 points per person just SYD-SIN

So to do long haul new suites using points and paying the standard points is not possible at all?

If that's the case, that's devastating

The new suites, if you can find them, may be available at the standard rate rather than at the saver rate. The standard award would be 260k one way australia to europe, per person.

When I was booking Suites I found this thread had all the relevant info and well worth the time spent reading it
Yes Thanks will definitely read it

I just called them
Virtually everyhting on the non saver

There was a few flights on the saver points.
But as previously mentioned melb to sin is the 777

You’ll also find that for European cities, only London has the new suites and only on particular flights.

You may get some new suites on saver waitlist for close in bookings. No chance at all for advance bookings next year.

The old suites and 777 F are not bad, give them a go.

Honestly, MEL-SIN on a 777 isn’t too bad. On SQ ‘F’ really is ‘F’, and the service, food and amenities are the same regardless of the equipment. The old suites are just fine, perhaps preferable depending on who you talk to. And the 777, given the seat goes to a flat bed quickly and easily, is probably better for maximising sleep rather than having to convert to a bed.

I flew old suites last year. On the SYD - SIN leg, 10 suites were occupied. I suspect that on a popular route such as this, now that new suites accommodate 6, saver awards will be difficult to come by.
