SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Just a curious question re: Infant pricing.

I'm looking to book a trip to Europe next year around june/july, which is when bubs turns 2.

If bubs if 1 y.o. when we leave to Europe, but turns 2 while we are overseas, would we have to pay a full fare/adult redemption for bubs on the way back?

how can I delete a redemption nominee online myself when the delete button is grayed out?

I read somewhere late last year that it would be a yes.
maybe book as one ways then you could do under 2 on the way there?

I was under the impression that if a trip commences while they are less than 2 then they would be treated as an infant for the return. That could vary by airline.

That must be the case. AFAIK SQ has/had a policy that if a fare must be purchased once they turn two, even if this is midpoint through the itinerary. Qantas will base it on the age of the child at the time of outbound travel (ie if turns two after travel commences, they will honour the lower fare).

Sorry if asked recently.

I’m wanting to book Melb to Iceland via Copenhagen. The online system can book on one ticket, but the Copenhagen to Iceland flights are released about a month later than SQ. Can I book the Mel to Copenhagen online myself, and then call to add the extra leg in a month? There’s only a 2hr connection and would like to do this to keep the point cost the same.

Yes you can do that. Sometimes it takes a while to get an operator who knows what they're doing, but they generally find it easier to add an extra flight on at the end of an itinerary (changing the ultimate destination) rather than changing the origin.

Thanks for that. It’s 105,000 points to Europe in J. Should it be the same point cost if the last leg is in Y? I presume that mixed class is possible?

Yes with Qantas I cut it fine when my 27 yo daughter was turning 2 on a flight MEL_LAX. She turned 2 after departure while we were in the air ;) The flight over and back via Hawaii was with that deal were all free for her as she was deemed to be an infant for the entire trip.

Crossing the date line also meant that she got to have two 2nd Birthdays ;)

Can you book the cook on reward seats or you can only select a certain time before the flight? I can Manage My Booking but meal selection isnt allowed.

Thanks.

You certainly can as I only redeem and do not buy SQ tickets. ;)

However BTC selection is not normally open if you book your reward seats well in advance. I cannot remember when it opens, but it will!

BTC for my rewards flight at the end of August opened up a few weeks ago. So maybe 6 weeks before departure.

Hi team. I am VA WP and travelling with my wife later this year in SQ Y (on an SQ ticket) and have entered my VA FF number in the SQ booking system. I have selected seats for us (as I paid for the middle level Y fare, W or H fare type, I think)

Is there any chance of securing a shadow seat so that we can guarantee a block of three seats between us, say? Or would I be completely wasting my time ringing up SQ to request this? Does VA WP give us anything like this on SQ?

Thanks in advance.
